Do you have many DCs and need to wait for replication? Also, check the computer
account is a member of Exchange Domain Servers group (2003) or Exchange Servers
and Exchange Install Domain Servers (2007). Group info taken from my own
servers and they're working :)

You have a GUID mismatch.

I would spend the money and call PSS.

In 2007+, you'd run a setup /recoverserver, but that's not an option in 2003.
You might check out the Exchange 2003 Disaster Recover Operations Guide and
see if it has a section on this.

Correct. IIRC a eseutil -patch will get the stores back up. Syncs the guid on

RE: Spam Filtering Appliance - Essential Business Server

2010-06-21 Thread Jason Gurtz
What everyone else said :)

However, I recommend you stay away from Ironport.

We've been running an Ironport C100 as an Anti-spam and border mail AV for
about 3 years (implemented before Cisco bought them) and were (and
generally are) very happy with its performance, features, etc...

However recently, we had an issue (with their operational infrastructure,
not the appliance) and opened a support ticket. Without going into a lot
of detail, let me just say that I've had a better support experience with
consumer grade gear I purchased at Best Buy. I really don't know what the
story is; maybe all the original guys have jumped ship over the last 18
months? Needless to say, our expectation (when we're paying a few grand a
year for support) is of top-notch support.

Ticket has been open a day short of 2 months with only a short
documentation update to their KB needed to close the ticket. They just
can't seem to get it right.

It's pretty sad, keep that in mind.

 Hi,

My google skills have failed me and I'm hoping someone can help me with
 this one question.

Is it even possible to use spam filtering appliance like Cisco Ironport
 when running Essential Business Server?

Essential Business Server deploys CAS/HT/MB roles on server labelled
'Messaging' and Exchange Edge role on server labelled 'Security'. With
Edge subscription in place can appliance like Cisco Ironport be placed
between 2 servers to filter out spam?

 Thanks,

custom. Here are the other options that I selected as well. For some
reason it is still getting hung up in the queue on the 2010 server and
never delivers the message to someone on Exchange 2003 server.

Address Space SMTP= domain name of the Exchange 2003 server

Route Mail through the following smart host (IP address of the Exchange

Don't put an IP address on default SMTP VS on the 2003 side. Create an

eventually get authentication errors that won't make sense. :-P

Do a Send/Receive to sync the OST prior to recovering deleted items. If you
delete something and immediately try to recover it, you won't see it b/c the

PF migration - Ex2003 to Ex2007 w/ CCR

2010-06-21 Thread Rob Sargent
Hi. I'd appreciate help understanding how to move Exchange 2003 Public
Folders to our Exchange 2007 CCR cluster. In Ex2003 there are several PF
stores. In Ex2007, mbxs roles are only on the one 2-node CCR cluster.

Due to the conflict between PF replication and CCR, we plan to replicate all
PFs over a weekend to the Exchange 2007 cluster and then shut off PF
replication, but here's what I'm not sure about:
- do we disable CCR while the PF replication is taking place?
- once all PFs have replicated and PF replication is turned off, will
dismounting the Ex2003 Public Stores be enough to force Outlook 2007 clients
to the Ex2007 PFs or do I need to delete the Ex2003 Public Stores?
- will Ex2007 CCR automatically start copying the new public store within
the cluster?

What other gotchas should I look out for?

Thanks
Rob

coming in that have not been properly decoded by Outlook 2003. In the
examples that I have seen, the person is basically seeing the raw
formatted message. The ones that I have seen are MIME encoded. I would
normally write this off to something getting munged along the way, but
we have had enough reports that it makes me think there is something
going on. I was wondering if it was maybe due to some incompatibility
introduced by newer email clients, and if anyone else had run into this.
It is not terribly widespread at this point, and I have done some
searching, but my google-fu was weak.

FWIW, we are using Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook 2003, with an
IronMail appliance on the perimeter.

Thanks for any info,
Bill Mayo

Exchange 2007 Conf Room Scheduling Max

2010-06-21 Thread Eric
I can't remember what the PS command is to see the max setting for
re-occurring meetings for conference rooms. I believe the default is 180
days. Does anyone know the command to show and set this?

Thanks!

I believe it's
Get-mailboxcalendarsettings and set-mailboxcalendarsettings.

And the parameter is -bookingwindowindays.

RE: A Little OT: RightFax and Outlook 2010

2010-06-21 Thread Benny Vega
Hi Don,

Officially, it isn't supported. Yet. Maybe on version 9.4's SP2? I'd try
it if I had a copy of Office 2010. This version just came out last week
or so. Historically, OpenText usually lags a bit. Maybe by the end of
the next quarter/September? Have you tried installing it? I bet most of
it will work.

Thanks,

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to find out if there has been a RightFax
client released, that's compatible with Outlook 2010. I've Google'd and
contacted our support vendor, but no word yet.

TIA!
