GUID IDs
Can anyone explain what the each section of GUID refers to? i.e 6c7e0ee7-f916-4311-8c4c-06e5f0af2547 (taken from ADUC) This with Windows 2003/XP Clients/Exchange 2003 I was thinking along the lines of, date/time created, the DC the account was created on etc. Thanks John ** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Steve, Are you loading the disc controller drivers when you are booting from CD/DVD. Press F6 to have the boot process stop to load the RAID drivers or the OS will not see the discs. I tried to do a repair on the server today, and it does not see that there is an OS already installed and asked me to load drivers (even though the OS still boots). I loaded all the disk drivers, but still no OS is seen for repair. I loaded the chipset as well, still no go. I am currently thinking of installing the server again as an overly install, then re-installing Exchange, if I need to. I presume that I'll need to use the DR switch to do so. We've been using the Microsoft built in backup, and the last time I tested and restored a couple of test files, it looks like the backup is good, but I will copy the store and logs to another drive, so I have them. This issue comes up with the Repair option. When I first loaded the OS, I did not need to load any drivers to install. When the dialog comes up to choose a listed OS for repair, none are listed. RE: Flukey Server
Steve... When you loaded the OS did you use a setup disk provided by the server manufacturer? You should really make it a priority to get the disk controller spec and make sure you have the correct driver on hand in the event of a disaster. If the system becomes inoperable you may have to pull the card to read the part number. Forefront Quarantine
I'm not sure what changed, but we have a Filter List setup via Forefront on our Microsoft Exchange 2007 Edge Transport server, and up until a few days ago, it would automatically quarantine file extensions we had on the list. .COM for instance. After being quarantined, we could open Forefront, go to the report tab and highlight quarantine to deliver the file if it was actually business related. However, the files are no longer being quarantined, they are just automatically deleted. If I look under the Incidents section instead of quarantine, I can see where the file was purged. Does anybody know what I might need to correct to get things back to normal? If I open Forefront, look under the Filtering tab and highlight File, I can see that the Filter List is enabled with the Action: Delete: remove contents. My only other 3 options are Skip: detect only (which punches the file straight through) Purge eliminate message: (which gives me a warning that the attachments will be purged and unrecoverable...not what I want) Identify: tag message (which also punches the file through but puts a SUSPECT alert in the subject I can't figured out what has changed that has stopped the files from being reviewable by the Exchange Admins without being auto delivered to the user. RE: Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Best Practices
I have it. We haven't implemented 2010 yet, but looks like we will within the next month or so and I'm finding it useful for clarifying certain aspects and gaining some knowledge beforehand. I think it's a good book for people who administrate multiple platforms and applications and can't focus primarily on Exchange. It doesn't go into the deep technical level that some other books might. RE: Flukey Server
No, I did not. I'm already most of the way through the install already, and I once again have network and Internet access from the server. It looks like I'll need to install Exchange also, since Program Files have also landed up in Windows.old where the previous copy of Windows server is now residing. I am presuming that I will need to use the DR switch when I do the Exchange install, correct? I had also copied the store and log files to another drive for safe keeping, and have Exchange backed up to when this problem started, but I would suppose just coping that stuff back to its proper place is not going to cut it. \\Steve// -Original Message- From: Roger Scudder [mailto:r...@scudderconsulting.com] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2010 4:05 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Flukey Server Oh... When I first loaded the OS, I did not need to load any drivers to install. When the dialog comes up to choose a listed OS for repair, none are listed. Then it asks you to load drivers (but, of course, does not give a clue as to what drivers it may need). \\Steve// -Original Message- From: Chris Knieriem [mailto:cknier...@pccareonline.com] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2010 11:23 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Flukey Server Steve, Are you loading the disc controller drivers when you are booting from CD/DVD. Chris -Original Message- From: Steve Szabo [mailto:steve...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 06, 2010 7:43 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Flukey Server The server that is home to Exchange 2007 has gone flukey (2008 Standard, 64-bit), and several Exchange services are not starting, or are shutting down. The NIC has decided that it is not connected to a network as well. Other than Exchange, there is nothing of importance on the primary drive. Does this seem to be a good plan, or am I dreaming? \\Steve// --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe exchangelist

Good to see this thread. We are also looking at hosting. We through Rackspace out because they can not accommodate encrypted mail options. They have great support and huge mailbox options, but we are limited as we MUST have an encrypted option. I have been talking to Apptix so far. I am disappointed in the slow mail comment. Wow BPOS has everything we need and is a good bit cheaper than groups like Apptix. Great discussion. Thanks all! RE: Feedback wanted: Hosted Exchange experiences
Check out BlueTie. They have a hosted Exchange product, though I did not see encryption listed as one of their features. If you do not need encryption for everything, their proprietary e-mail product has that option at a cost per e-mail sent via that service. I have some customers using the proprietary product, and they love it. Love it so much most have put Outlook into mothballs and use the web interface exclusively to access some of the features not available via Outlook, even with the IMAP protocol. \\Steve// -Original Message- From: mqcarp [mailto:mqcarpen...@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2010 5:45 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Re: Feedback wanted: Hosted Exchange experiences Good to see this thread. So I spent a few more hours going round and round and got no success. There was this EventID 6... somehow I was tented to click on the Copy button, when I pasted the information I got a lot more than what I saw on the GUI and that revealed the root cause. We had a failed RMS installation, then we changed the default container for user accounts, then we successfully deployed RMS, that lead us to having two RMS accounts as you can see below.
