I often write notes against contacts in my address book, admittedly
nothing sensitive but someone might do. You never know what people are
going to do, so the answer is very important. Any sane person like you
or me would just stored contact details in it, but I would bet money
that there are people out there (even if by accident or ignorance)
that have put sensitive data in an address book entry.

I wouldn't make any guarantees about anything. :-P

I'm aware that the biggest CHALLENGE in Exchange hosting, prior to the creation
of hosting mode in Exchange 2010 sp1, was separation of address books. In fact,
address book segregation is currently only supported in Exchange 2010 when you
are in hosting mode.

There have always been problems with information leakage with address lists.

Regardless of your answer to that question, what makes you think it's going to
be just an address book next time?

You aren't saying that there won't be a next time, are you?

Of course, if you're in a highly competitive industry, a list of external
contacts can say a *lot*, and what it reveals about your internal hierarchy can
be pretty dang interesting too, if you're looking to hire away staff from a
competitor, or understand decision-making, etc.

So, the answer is, as usual, "It Depends."

I'll have to second that. There is quite an aggressive schedule for moving

RE: Um, Ouch...

2010-12-23 Thread Michael B. Smith
Of course. Who reads the fine print?

The issues have been known since MCIS (who remembers that? - Microsoft
Commercial Internet Services) 1.0 and were scheduled to be addressed in MCIS
2.0 - also known as Mercury. The project got canned, and instead MANY of those
capabilities got built into Exchange 2000. But not all.

I'll have to second that. There is quite an aggressive schedule for moving
BPOS customers from 2007 to 2010. Address books and PF's are things that were
not in the original plan for the environment. After a huge amount of
complaining by customer's the code was re-written and they were added to the
environment. They are both a daily thorn as they take constant massaging. The
biggest challenge by far is staying ahead of the customers changes in AD. I
would have to say most of the cross domain fubars are caused by customers
changing their AD and or silly requests that they demand and you all know the
customer is always right.

RE: Um, Ouch...

2010-12-23 Thread Matt Moore
I'll second that!!! Since I work in both environments (all three), I can
say without a doubt that that life gets easy when 2007 goes away. Most
customers in D stop having trouble all together when they get migrated. Corp
almost runs itself and you can be rest assured that it is the biggest testing
ground in the world and a poster child of what not to do with exchange.

The sooner BPOS gets to 2010 the sooner it will be a stable service... They
can't get there soon enough if you ask me.
