Depends on your AV product. Exchange-aware antivirus generally is just HT and
MBX though.

We are running scanmail from Trend on our exchange 2003 cluster.

With Exchange 2010 it looks like scanmail gets installed on all roles Edge
MX/HT/CAS

I'm not planning on having an edge server because we have another antispam
product that processes incoming and outgoing emails.

Are most people installing email AV on the MX,HT, and CAS even if they are on
different servers?

Thanks,jb

Connecting Outlook 2003 to Exchange 2010 SP1

2011-07-06 Thread Robb Pickinpaugh
We are migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 SP1

I have built a test environment (no internet access, no access to my primary
network) to run through the steps before doing them live - the tighter
integration to AD has me a touch paranoid.

In my test environment I have Exchange 2003 SP2 servers and I have built my
first Exchange 2010 SP1 CAS.

I have turned off the Encryption requirement for RPC while troubleshooting this.

The mailboxes are still sitting on the Exchange 2003 server.

Both classes I took and everything I've read said to install the CAS first,
point the clients there, then install the HT, and then the MBX, then when you
move the mailboxes the client pointing is already taken care of.

I try to change the Outlook 2003 MAPI profile to point to the Ex2010 CAS and it
reverts to the Exchange 2003 server. It does this every time.

I have to have missed something simple, but I haven't been able to figure out
what.

Any thoughts?

In the process of a migration now. Have to admit I don't recall ever reading
that though.

All our clients with mailboxes on the 2003 box still point to the 2003 box.

When they've been moved to the 2010 box their profile updates to point to the
2010 box, well to the CAS array object.

RE: Connecting Outlook 2003 to Exchange 2010 SP1

2011-07-06 Thread Michael B. Smith
I think the OP is missing a key point.

You point the _OWA CLIENTS_ (and Activesync) to the Exchange 2010 CAS and it
will redirect/proxy as appropriate to the proper back-end server.

Not mailboxes.

Paul are you guys running Outlook 2003, or newer versions of Outlook?

Did you configure autodiscover?

According to what I remember from class OL2003 can't use autodiscover so the
changes supposedly have to be made manually.

Maybe I'm inserting manual processes where they don't need to be?

RE: 2010 migration

2011-07-06 Thread Wayne Dueck
The migration went very well. Would of been a non-event if I hadn't forgotten
about an internal firewall between our Oracle and Exchange servers but . . . .
today I am dismantling our 2007 systems and deleted the public folder because
it was only for Blackberry offline address book. Shortly after that, I started
getting phone calls about end users not being able to book conference rooms.
The error is -
Direct Booking
Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting.
I have Google'd it and found that if you mount the DB that holds the PF
everything is ok but I can't do that. I thought that Exchange 2007 didn't use
PF but there must be some tie to them still. Does anyone have any suggestions
on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Suffice it to say when you decommission and properly remove the Exchange

It's been a while since I've broached this topic.

2011-07-06 Thread sms adm
Wasn't correcting, just directing :)
I just googled Microsft Edge Server and this was one of the links.
Thought it would be useful

Thx

Ok ok – you can also do address rewriting. Which almost no one uses. :-P*

 No... that's a misunderstanding.

Edge Server role is not just for AV/spam. It's for providing a secure link
 for OWA/Activesync, also.

We are running scanmail from Trend on our exchange 2003 cluster.

With Exchange 2010 it looks like scanmail gets installed on all roles
 Edge MX/HT/CAS

I'm not planning on having an edge server because we have another
antispam product that processes incoming and outgoing emails.

Are most people installing email AV on the MX,HT, and CAS even if they
 are on different servers?

 Thanks,jb

RE: 2010 migration

2011-07-06 Thread Wayne Dueck
Created a new Public Folder, assigned it to the mailbox databases and the new
meeting requests now work. Exchange 2010 must still have a dependancy on public
folders. Don't know what a blank public folder has to do with booking a
resource but it works.
