Re: Create mailbox Exchange 2010 - Power Shell

2012-07-26 Thread helpdesk UK
I hope I am not accepting a response too quickly...

But any comments will be appreciated..

 Hello

We are trying to run a power shell command line to create a mailbox and it
 fails with the error below.

 network

xyz.com = root of the forest ( Exchange installed )
 pri.xyz.com - child domain ( Users )

abc-dc-01.xyz.com - DC in the root of the forest.
pri-dc-01.pri.xyz.com - dc in child domain.

When we enable a use for a mailbox manually using the GUI it works fine.
But if we use the same command as mentioned below and enable a mailbox it
 fails with the error below..

The operation couldn't be performed because object '
 pri.xyz.com/PAS/Users/mugga' couldn't be found on 'ABC-DC-01.xyz.com'.

 Can someone please help...

It seems it is defaulting to the local domain and hence cannot find the
user...So it seems that I need to add some more to the command so exchange
would see the remote child domain for the use before it tries to enable the
 mailbox...

Any help will be greatly apprecaited.

 cheers

I thought they offered SAML 2.0 / Shib authentication? Would that not be a
better option than syncing passwords to Google?

This might not be the perfect place for this question however I think it's a
close fit.

What are other people with AD internally doing to sync passwords to Google
apps? The initial password can't be set (subsequent changes can) which seems to
be less than ideal. I can't see requiring people to change their password to
get it synced up.

RE: Can't install Mailbox role on Exc 2010 server

2012-07-26 Thread Sobey, Richard A
You can also create a new Discovery Search Mailbox by simply running
Enable-Mailbox -Discovery. I had to do this after I mistakenly deleted the
database containing all the system mailboxes, and had to get them all back :)

This happened one time for a friend of mine.

He had to delete the Discovery Search Mailbox
Rerun the setup /preparead switch which recreated the user account then
recreate the maibox manually.
Rerun the SP2 ELEVATED and then install the mailbox role.

It was a few months ago so that might be fuzzy, but it definitely had to do
with the Discovery Search Mailbox. The other Exchange MVP's might have better
ideas..

What are other people with AD internally doing to sync passwords to Google

Re: SP2 schema update

2012-07-26 Thread Richard Stovall
I'm pretty sure it can be applied as part of the service pack or
beforehand. You'll need both Schema and Enterprise admin rights.

One thing that got me during the installation is that I have a DC in a
remote site. After updating the schema, the service pack installation then
failed and I had to retry it My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure
it was because the schema updates had not replicated out the remote DC.
Once I forced that, it went smoothly.*

*With one exception unrelated to Exchange itself.
