RE: MSExchangePowerShellAppPool terminated (and now IIS is dead)

What changed? Somebody did SOMETHING on that server. Based on what information
you've provided here, it sounds like someone dcpromo'ed the server, all the way
except for the final reboot. Your event log should give you more information if
you go back far enough.

Subject: MSExchangePowerShellAppPool terminated (and now IIS is dead)

Hello,

With Exchange 2010 SP1 on Server 2008 R2, we're currently experiencing an issue
where IIS is down and unable to restart (thus management, web access, etc are
unavailable).

This started this morning with us being unable to use the Exchange Management
Shell.

Looking in the event viewer, we saw constant:
Event 5009 -- A process serving application pool 'MSExchangePowerShellAppPool'
terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '11132'. The process exit code was
'0x'.

This appears to have started this morning after the following fault:
Faulting application name: w3wp.exe, version: 7.5.7601.17514, time stamp:
0x4ce7afa2
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17651, time stamp:
0x4e21213c
  Exception code: 0xe0434f4d
  Fault offset: 0xcacd
  Faulting process id: 0x1c90
  Faulting application start time: 0x01cdc800185f5c42
  Faulting application path: c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe
  Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll

As part of our troubleshooting, we created a new IIS App Pool. As soon as we
did that, all the IIS App Pools stopped and could not be started. We tried
restarting the various IIS-related services directly, and got stuck trying to
restart Windows Process Activation Service. Trying to start that service
gives: Error 5: Access is denied

We are also receiving the error: The Windows Process Activation Service (WAS)
encountered an error attempting to look up the built in IIS_IUSRS group. There
may be problems in viewing and setting security permissions with the IIS_IUSRS
group.

Finally, trying to runas /user:administrator cmd also gives a Error 5:
Access is denied. Google suggests that an issue like this is likely an issue
with the secondary logon service, though the service access control seems OK.

Currently, 'normal' exchange clients are working. We are concerned that on
reboot, Exchange might not come up.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Any help would be appreciated.

Elijah

We implemented Good Technologies for MDM and to secure corporate data on the

and it sometimes takes a while for Good to fix it. Becaue of that we're
re-evaluating our decision now, but I will say that it is an easy way to push

RE: ex2010 Indexes and corruption - rebuilding

2012-12-12 Thread Stringham, Steven
So, with that not working - I finally just bit the bullet and reseeded all 9
databases from mbx1 to mbx2. And, it now seems to be working fine. I am
guessing that the index service was getting caught up on one of the databases.
I was getting some 107 errors in the event log.

All is well. I just thought I would share my final result.

Ok, I launched the redindex on a server that was not active (mbx1), and it
deleted the index on that copy of the database. It took about 13 hours to run a
full reindex (about a 500-600gig database). I then cut the database over to
mbx1's reindexed database - and searched. It worked! I then sent myself some
email - it took a moment but it did get indexed.

I then ran a copydatabase -catalogonly over to the now non-active database
(mbx2) from mbx1. I restarted the index service on mbx2. I then cut back to
mbx2 - and it was able to search up to where I did the copy of the catalog.
When I send myself a new email - it is not getting indexed (not searchable).
So, I cut back to mbx1 and all is well.

Any thoughts on why the database on mbx2 will not index new emails? New email
show up, but they don't seem to be getting added to the catalog for searches.

I actived some DAG databases from one server to another yesterday, and now the
indexes do not seem to be updating (searches not returning results for new
messages arriving after the cutover time). I restarted the index services
(msexchange search indexer). But it still does not seem to be updating.

In order to fix this it looks like I will need to rebuild the index. Can I do
this on the non-active databases and then cut over, or do I need to this on the
active database copy? Does this means that while it is rebuilding, I am not
able to do any searches, or rather just that which is completed?

Or, can I rebuild on the inactive databases, and then cut over, and rebuild on
that server?

Thanks
Steven Stringham

Exchange 2010 SP2 RU4 / Outlook 2010

(I posted this in the Exchange Forums, too)

When meeting requests are sent to the manager, everything is fine as long as
the delegate has Outlook running.

If she closes out, the meetings don't appear in the manager's calendar at all.

I have recreated the delegate's .ost; used the cleanreminders switch to open
her Outlook, etc.

The manager has both an iPod and an iPhone, and apparently the meeting requests
will show up there, but not in his Outlook inbox.

I won't have access to the manager's machine until tomorrow.

I'm hoping for some pointers on what to look for and where to start.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Zenprise. Manages the device after it has had the Zenprise app installed and
configured. Not sure if it can be automated, another team manages that server.

I just setup the device on the back-end (enable ActiveSync, etc).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

RE: Managing Mobile Devices

2012-12-12 Thread Curtis Ellis
We're also using Zenprise. It's a lot like the iPhone configuration utility
except it never has to be plugged in. install the Zenprise app and you are off
and running. You can control applications, set wireless settings, configure
email settings, install apps, detect jail broken devices and just to name a few
of the options. It can also be configured to do selective wipes of the
corporate data. These capabilities are also available for droids as well.

Re: Exchange 2003 free busy not available Feb 1 2013 onward

Thanks James. I set it to 6 months using GP so I will let them know it is
actually 5 months in to the future.

Thank you,
Mike Sullivan

Outlook always publishes N-1 of future data. So it will always publish 1
month of past Free/Busy data. So for example if you set Outlook to 12
months, it’ll be 11 months of future and 1 month prior.

OK, this has me stumped. I had a user report that the free busy info no
longer works when creating a meeting request starting Feb 1 2013. I just
verified this as well. If I start to schedule a meeting for Jan 31 2013 I
see the free busy info. Then, when I change it to Feb 1 2013 the info is
not available. It is showing less than the 2 months of free busy info that
is the default in Outlook 2003 (yes, I know it is no longer supported but
my hands are tied for now). If this is an issue with Outlook 2003 and there
is documentation to show the issue perhaps this will allow me to migrate to
Office 2010. I tried OWA and have the same issue.

Our Exchange server is running on Server 2003 R2 fully patched. There's
only one Exchange server in my environment.

RE: Meeting requests don't appear in Manager's calendar if delegate is logged out

2012-12-12 Thread xyz
Greetings and I have read the threads.
(thanks for providing your EXCHANGE version details).

It sounds like the concern is the PC desktop OUTOOK client is not showing
proper info or things are missing?

I get this type of ticket from time to time - and sometimes a panic call and so
far only APPLE mobile products.

Not sure if this will help you with your problem since we don't know the cause,
so just the process I follow to work on this type of ticket with mobile
devices.
First question I ask is do you sync with mobile devices and you indicated
YES and that is always the case here.

I meet with requestor in office (requesting they bring all mobile devices) and
review PC client status to see if anything is amiss - and so far no EXCHANGE
PC client issues identified.
(what I sometimes find is users have made all kinds of changes on the mobile
device that introduce variables).
I then review mobile device configs, and either make changes, or just help them
set up all the accounts new with settings I know from experience work.
So far, this has resolved all issues with point being this was user config
issues on the mobile devices.
YMMV.

I have not had to address this with IOS 6.0.1 which came out November 1, as I
don't have any current tickets with mobile sync issues.

Hopefully someone on the list will post if there are known issues with IOS
6.0.1.

HTH
Dana
