Exchange Server in a Cable Environment

2002-02-16 Thread ARAE NETWORKS

I want to setup a Home Office and I have a Cable Modem which they tell me
cannot guarantee a static IP address. Our mail records are hosted by an
ISP. Is there a way for me to setup an Exchange 5.5 or 2000 server to
receive and send mail in this configuration? Where and what do I have to
configure in order to have this work correctly?

I have SBC DSL for business...They have a
great deal of 79.99/month for 5 static IP's and they provide the Netopia box
too!  I know it's twice as much as cable, but only 30 bucks more than
regular DSL.  If it's a business, pay the extra money and get what you
want and have Exchange run the way it runs bestJust my two cents worth.

Sharing Mail or Folders with other Outlook Clients

2002-02-18 Thread ARAE NETWORKS

We have 3 users setup with external POP3 and SMTP mail accounts. We would
like to have users share mail or a folder with mail that comes into their
Outlook 2000 without setting up an Exchange Server. Can anyone suggest how
this can be done since forwarding to a PST doesn't work since only 1 user
can have that PST open at a time.

RE: Burning PST files.

2002-02-26 Thread ARAE NETWORKS

You cannot use it directly from the CD because it automatically marks it as
a RED-ONLY file. After copying the PST to disk, you must change it from
READ-ONLY and then it will be accessible.

Is it possible to burn PST files to a CD and still use them? We have some
users with very large PST files that
are gobbling up server space. We tried burning a PST file to a CD, but we
were then unable to access it.
Even after copying the file back to their home drive and trying to take
ownership of it. Has anybody had any
success with this?

Exchange 5.5 SP4, NT 4.0 SP6.

Thanks.

FW: Recently Changed to Native Mode

receive the following messages in my event logs:-

For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Do I have to delete my connection agreements in ADC to resolve this issue,
if not what can I do to stop it.

Many Thanks

Resource Domain, then. IIRC, you should be able to get away with the
following...

1) Create New NT 4 Domain
2) Setup ONE WAY trust to existing Domain, such that the new Domain trusts
the old Domains users, but not vice versa unless there is a need to trust
user accounts from the Resource Domain.
3) Create Exchange Server in New Domain, add to existing Organization. *This
will necessitate using the Service account from the old Domain*
4) Move Mailboxes from old Exchange Server to new Exchange server (Export to
PST and run a backup for safety).
5) Look up info in Knowledge Base re: removing the First Exchange Server in
an Exchange 5.5 organization if that applies to you.

The trust will take care of NT Account to Mailbox authentication.

By _moving_ instead of exporting and importing mailboxes, you change the
location of the box and update the directory pointers. This will help
insure that there is no need to make client side modifications for MAPI
clients.

The amount of storage allowed for server-side rules is 32kb. Total. It is
independent of the number of rules.

This is a server-side setting, not a client-side setting, which applies to
Exchange 5.x and 2000.

If you run up against this limit, try either consolidating existing rules
together, or use different criteria (i.e. change a rule so that it triggers
on a "From" address if that is shorter.
