A few
things come to mind: dnscmd, "isalive?" script, interorg sync tool and IMS
forwarding.  You might get most of what you want when you are done,
assuming you know what you are doing, but would it be worth the
complexity?

As for the second question,
no.

You could create a csv header file containing alt-recipient as one of the
headers, export the directory and sort on the alt-recipient column.

I prefer ldp.exe (w2k resource kit). The ldap filter would look something
like this:

alt-recipient=cn=(alternaterecipientalias),cn=Recipients,ou=site,o=org

Is there an easy way to determine which users have been configured to have
their inbound mail copied to a distribution list. In the past I added a
distribution list to the alternate recipient field in Exchange Admin and I'd
like to quickly determine the users I have configured this way.

You can create a rule based on specific words in the header information.

Hello list,

Is there a way to create/use an Outlook rule to filter based on extra/custom
header information?

Let me explain:
Our ISP has setup SpamAssassin on their mail servers. They can 'rate' email
for likeliness that it is spam. I'm considering having my mail relay
through their server for marking, but I don't know how to handle the mail
once its marked.

The marking is taking place in the headers of the message like below.
Basically, I'd like a client or server side rule that moved the message into
the 'deleted items' folder if X-Spam-Flag is Yes.

X-Spam-Status: Yes, hits=26.4 required=10.0
tests=INVALID_DATE_TZ_ABSURD,VERY_SUSP_CC_RECIPS,NO_REAL_NAME,PLING,EXCU
SE_3,CLICK_TO_REMOVE_2,CLICK_BELOW,EXCUSE_16,MAILTO_WITH_SUBJ,FRONTPAGE,
BIG_FONT,MAILTO_LINK,PORN_3,CTYPE_JUST_HTML,SUBJ_HAS_UNIQ_ID,DATE_IN_FUT
URE_24_48,FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD
version=2.21
X-Spam-Flag: YES
X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.21 (devel $Id: SpamAssassin.pm,v 1.80
2002/05/14 05:59:52 hughescr Exp $)
X-Spam-Report:   26.4 hits, 10 required;

Thanks!

I agree with you in all points. I just don't see a reason
why tossing Outlook now that it, as you mentioned,
has been greatly improved to stop such automated
  script execution attacks.
Interesting enough KLEZ uses a completely new algorithm to
spread itself. It harvests e-mail addresses out of
the browser local temporary Internet file cache
and sends e-mails with faked originator addresses using it's own SMTP engine. How would it help to toss Outlook to
  get around KLEZ?
I am just awaiting the first .EXE viruses designed to
infect a *NIX machine by using the same algorithm
KLEZ uses (harvesting e-mail addresses from
temporary files) and send them via it's own SMTP engine.
Anybody knows how to program that?

sendmail and one with Win2k/E2k. We only have one MX record pointing for both
domains and would like to run the exchange 2000 server forward all mail for
the domain to the sendmail box. I know we can make second MX records but we
are running out of Ips and are more doing it for testing and redundancy plans,
albeit who knows where we will use it.
I was poking around mskb and some other areas and
  didn't see anything off hand..

I have a user whose calendar is playing up - random deletions etc. His
Outlook isn't set up for offline use and he has no pda software on the pc,
yet whenever he opens Outlook it says it is syncing as if he has offline
folders setup! Offline folders definitely aren't setup and there is no .OST
file on his pc so that can't be the case. Any ideas?

5.5 does not revert to using A records if there is not an mx record present.
There is not an mx record for helix.mgh.harvard.edu which is why the mail is
sitting in the queue.

Well doing a telnet helix.mgh.harvard.edu 25 at the dos prompt, does return
a 220 message from a sendmail box. However it takes about 30 seconds for
that message to come up. It seems way to long to me.

I think your server may be timing out waiting for their server to respond
with the 220 message. I have looked but cannot see if there is such a time
out. Does anyone else know?

You could also telnet to there server, and test the connection using the
directions in Q153119 to see if the are receiving correctly. Just put
something in the message asking the person to respond to your test message.

I think it is a problem with their server as well, but will reserve
judgment, until after you follow the Q153119 directions to see if you can
even send to that box.

Exchange 5.5 Sp4 W2k Sp2.
One of our consultants is trying to send an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] This just sits in the queue and throws back
NDR's at the specified intervals until it finally gives up trying. I used
the interactive DNS MX-verify CGI available at zmailer.org. The first
portion returns the following: Doing resolver lookup for T=MX
domain=``helix.mgh.harvard.edu''
Questionable: NO MX DATA: domain=``helix.mgh.harvard.edu'' We SIMULATE! Do
have at least one MX entry added!

It does however connect and returns an 'OK'.

When I run the Exchange utility restest.exe I get and error, "an error
occurred while trying to resolve IP address for helix.mgh.harvard.edu. This
message would have been queued for another delivery attempt later. Check
your DNS configuration and make sure your DNS servers are running".

The DNS server is running on a different W2K server on my network and it has
forwarders set to my external DNS servers. My Exchange server is setup to
use this W2K internal DNS server. If I run nslookup from my Exchange server
it correctly connects to that server and if I lookup
"helix.mgh.harvard.edu." and returns the same IP address that is returned by
the Interactive DNS test connection.

It is only email address sitting in the outbound queue at present so it is
unclear whether other addresses are failing. I do not believe the problem is
on my end but wanted see if any of the Exchange experts had any ideas.

Thanks
-Dave Vantine

I'm logged in as an administrator and have full permissions to the mail
store -- including adding the 'Send As' and 'Receive As' rights. I have
run Exmerge actions on this store before, and nothing has changed since.
Exchange is running under the System context, so I can't log in as the
service account.

Any other thoughts...

I've searched the usual places, but couldn't seem to find anything on
this. I'd appreciate any assistance anyone out there might be able to
offer.

Exchange 2k SP1 on Win2k SP2. Trying to extract some mailboxes of old
users to .PST for archiving, but I continue to receive the following
error:

[XX:XX:XX] Error extracting information from server DN ''
(CMapiSession::GetInfoFromProfile)

I'm interpreting this (perhaps incorrectly) as exmerge being unable to
find the source server. However, it can successfully contact the server
to pull a list of mailbox names (and indicates this in the log) and the
server is definitely up and operational.

I've never had a problem exporting messages before and I'm wondering if
I'm just missing something obvious.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
