RE: OWA 5.5 has just stopped and i can't start it again!

2002-01-17 Thread Bob Fronk \(BTR Technologies, Inc\)

James,

Update to SP6 (NT) on all the servers. Then update to SP4 on your
Exchange 5.5 AND on the OWA/IIS box.

This should fix it.

This is a known issue with Exchange / NT and lower SPs.

Subject: OWA 5.5 has just stopped and i can't start it again!

I am Using exchange 5.5 sp3 on one server and IIS4 with OWA 5.5 sp3 on
another server. OS is NT4.
OWA has just stopped, I rebooted both machines - still no joy.
I then restored a backup - still no joy.
The only error message that comes up if you leave it long enough is;
error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
/exchange/USA/LogonFrm.asp
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can
change this limit by specifying a new value for the property
Server.ScriptTimeOut or by changing the value in the IIS administration
tools.
I have checked the timeouts and they are fine.
ANY IDEAS???

We are trying to implement OWA, but we keep getting an error message
that
says

Setup has detected that you are not running a set of Windows NT related
fixes required for Outlook Web
Access.

The only thing that I could find in TechNet referred to NT 4.0 and said
the
cause of the problem is that
you don't have service pack 3 or later installed. OWA must be thinking
that
the SP2 we are running

Hmmm, that curious, I've had to do the same thing
because of being given the incorrect spelling on a new employee's name,
changing the first, last, display alias has always taken care of the name
resolving issue. Almost always it's been the alias that has kept it from
resolving

There's no way to change the directory name without
deleting the mailbox recreating it.

The problem I see is the directory name is

Is this why the name does not resolve?

RE: relaying message

2001-12-13 Thread Bob Fronk \(BTR Technologies, Inc\)
Title: Message

I had a similar problem.

A client has some digital document senders
and they need relay rights internally.

The Exchange 5.5 sp4 box was relay secure
and the document senders would not work unless I opened the relay.

So, within Windows 2K server, I bound a 2nd
internal IP (192.168.1.105) to the NIC in the Exchange box. (I did this because
the first IP 192.168.1.100 was NAT to an external address)

Then I pointed the digital document
senders to 192.168.1.105 as the pop3 server.

In Exchange Administrator, Connections, IMS
Properties, Routing, Routing Restrictions I allow Hosts and clients
connecting to these internal addresses and entered 192.168.1.105.

Now whatever I point to that internal
address can relay, but externally the server is relay secure.

Is this the best solution, I doubt it, but
it was easy and it works. And I didnt have to fool with registry
settings etc.

Title: Message

There it is!

Although I have never changed the settings
from default, I just now changed them, pressed OK, then went and changed them
back and voila, the rules are working.

I hope this is my solution.

Thanks Jacqueline.

In Outlook XP, you get to
it by going to Tools/E-mail Accounts/View or Change existing e-mail
accounts/Microsoft Exchange Server/Change/More Settings...

You can also get there by
right clicking your Outlook icon/Properties/E-mail Accounts/View or Change
(etc. - same as previous)

Here is where you put
your settings for online/offline status and detecting the connection
state. I had this happen to me once where Outlook XP changed me to
offline use after some connectivity problems. I had to go here and set it
back. My settings are:

Exchange Account: Name to
refer to account - Microsoft Exchange Server

Manually control
connection state

Choose the connection
type when starting is not checked

Default connection state
is Connect with the network

60 seconds until server
connection timeout.

Depending on how you
connect, you may need different settings. I think it was the
Automatically detect connection state that got me.

I am not following

you referring too?

Look in the General Tab of your Microsoft Exchange
Server settings and see if your settings have been changed.

No Client rules.

Do you have client rules as well?
Sometimes, when client rules
conflict with server rules, the latter won't run.

Does anyone know if I'll run into any issues if I install the Terminal

control/access
it.

thanks,

Configure NAV for Exchange to block attachments. This stopped goner in its tracks. I block: *.com, *.exe, *.scr and also
the double extensions like *.jpg.vbs. and assorted
others.

We just got this one.
Norton's on Exchange and the desktops did NOT catch

it and our virus definitions are current, so be careful. We are downloading

Antigen as I type.

Hi Bob,

I still have a few clients setup like this using NT4 and Exchange 5.5.
Do a
search on Google for a freebie utility called pullmail.exe. Then you can
write a batch file to pull the e-mail off of the POP server and feed it
to
Exchange.

For example:

rasdial ISP USER PASSWORD

pullmail.exe POPMAILBOX USER PASSWORD /to:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

rasdial ISP /disconnect

The above works especially well with an ISDN connection.

As an alternative you have a program called POPBeamer available at
www.dataenter.co.at POPBeamer works really well and is what is still
collecting e-mail at the last place I worked.

Hope this gets you on the right track. If you need any help or want me
to
mail you the pullmail.exe (a whopping 123k!) software feel free to
contact
me off list.
