OT: Vcard in Auto Signatures and pictures blocked by NAV for Exch ange

2002-07-11 Thread Chris Seng

Using Q248832 to create my Auto Signature with a vcard works like a charm.
The problem is that when I send my email the vcard is quarentined by NAV for
Exchange. I am not blocking *.vcf files. Does anybody know how or why it
is being blocked? Also, how do I fix it? I have looked on Microsoft's
website, Symantec and going through Google now, but nothing really related
to problem. Thanks in advance for you help!

PS. When I cut and paste pictures into an email they are getting blocked
also. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

I am blocking specific extension that I have gotten from this list (The
Martin Blackstone List =)). I can send other attachments like *.doc, *xls,
*.bmp and so forth.

Are you blocking *all* attachments somewhere? I'm not familiar with Norton,
being a Trend user, but I have the ability to block default, all, or
user-specified.

I used
the ExchangeRecovery tool that Martin suggested. I was able to convert 2
ost to pst files. There was nothing listed about what the limitation are
of the demo. The one thing I did notice is that I couldn't uninstall it
after I was done.

You have to run the navupdate.exe after you make the registry changes.

Norton for Exchange doesn't do file blocking. You'll need a gateway server
such as NAV for Gateways or Mail Essentials. I believe other AV solutions,
such as Antigen will also do this for you.

RE: Norton Filter

2001-09-18 Thread Chris Seng

NAV for Exchange does do file filtering here is the instructions down below:

Email blocking of attached files based on the filename or extension
---
NAVMSE enables you to create a list of files to be handled as though
they were infected. If a file name or extension matches one of the
entries in the list, then it will be handled according the options set
for infected files. The virus information reported for the attachment
will be UNAUTHORIZED FILE.

The following example will block files based on the extension (.vbs)
and file name (virus.txt). Specify the file names and extensions in
the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\NAVMSE\2.1\BlockingPolicy\Attachment]

 * Specify the total number of file names and extensions to be
   excluded. In this example, a total of two file names and
   extensions are to be blocked.

 AttachmentNamesCount=dword:0002

 * Create a new registry string value for each file name or extension
   in the list. Follow the naming convention of AttachmentNamesX,
   where X represents sequential integers. The following registry
   entries illustrate this technique:

 AttachmentNames0=*.vbs
 AttachmentNames1=virus.txt

   WARNING: If you remove an entry from the list, be sure that the
   Count is reduced and the remaining entries are renumbered
   sequentially. Do not leave any holes in the numbering.

 * OPTIONAL: By default all files are checked against this list,
   including files in archives (such as .zip files). Checking against
   the list can be limited to only the attachment itself by setting
   AllowsChecksWithinArchives to a value of 0.

  AllowsChecksWithinArchives=dword:0001

 * Run NaveUpdate to have the new setting take effect.

All file name comparisons are case insensitive.
