Removing the Pub database from Exchange 5.5
We have an Exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0 for email and have now setup a new Exchange 5.5 on Win2k server to be used as our public folder server. I have looked into the KB articles by Microsoft on how to remove the public information store from an existing Exchange server, but it has left me with a few questions. 1. Is it safe to remove the public information store from the original Exchange server (that will stay in production as private store only)? (We have replicated the pub to the other server) We need to free up the 10 GB of space the Pub takes up. 2. The KB article basically says to use Perfwiz to clear the pub (but this does not actually delete the pub.edb file), is this the best way? 3. After running the wizard, can I just delete the pub.ebd file to recover the space? 4. The KB article also states that you need to move other items such as Free/Busy and Offline address book if removing the server. If the server is staying and all we are doing id deleting the pub.edb file, do we need to move all the others over to the other server as well? How do they (free/busy, address book, etc) relate to the pub.edb ? Any suggestions will be appreciated greatly. Send As right
Good Day All, I am trying to setup our Help Desk group with Send As rights on all mailboxes, so they can send as that user when special notices need to go out. I tried to setup up the Help Desk group with send as rights at the Recipients container, but that did not inherit down to the mailboxes themselves, and they were still not able to send as the user. Is there a way to give them Send As rights to all mailboxes without having to visit each mailbox individually and apply the permisions, and without giving them more access to Exchange Server? We are running Exchange 5.5 SP4 on NT 4.0 SP 6a Thanks, Craig List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
IMC in 900-1200 msgs and outlook wont open attachments
Maybe someone can give me an idea of what to do for this problem. When our Exchange 5.5 server's IMC inbound queue hits about 900-1200 messages, our users who use Outlook 97-2000 cannot open any attachments. The message arrives, but when you try to open the message or attachment, it prompts with Could not open one or more attachments box. All we can do is wait for the number in inbound queue to drop to about 200 and then we can start to open attachments again. The CPU, mem, and disks show everything is fine. Has anyone had a problem like this before? Is the server just finally overloaded? Specs: Netfinity 5500 2x450 CPU 2 GB RAM Raid 5 (10 rpm drives) for store Any help is appreciated. Cant open one or more attachments
Maybe someone can help me. Our Exchange (5.5) is dropping attachments or so it seems. When we send internal (or external) email, and attach (anything -txt, pdf, exe) a file, the recipient sees the attachment paperclip in the received list, but not on the preview pane as normal. when you try to open the attachment, it tries for a second then says Cant open one or more attachments. There's nothing in the logs/event list. Any Ideas? Or any one run accross this before? Craig List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
RE: Cant open one or more attachments
Turned out to be the Groupshield antivirus. It had not updated its engine in a while. The last dat file it downloaded was not supported by the old engine and he defaulted to blocking all attachments since he didnt know what to do. Thanks for all the suggestions!! If it is stripping ALL, then I would look at Exchange. If it only strips particular few - use the OWA and open the attachments. Otherwise, it's by design. Good luck.
