I have an Exchange 2000 server w/SP2. This morning I installed SP3 and
restarted.
The STORE.EXE is now taking 99% of the CPU.
I tried restarting all Exchange services but still have
the same result.
I also looked for the BkExpandDontRun enabled in the following
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExCDO\Parameters
It is not there.
I did not have this with SP2.
Any idea what's causing this?

In place upgrade DB convert time

2002-07-22 Thread Dan Yarrow

Hi Folks

Just wondering about the process of an in place upgrade from 5.5SP4 to e2k. I would
assume that the database needs to be converted to the new format.

My question is how long does this process take on a fairly decent box? (dual CPU
1GBRAM SAN attaqched storage) The priv DB is about 65 GB.

Any info or past experiencse about inplace upgrades would be helpful.

Cheers

Hi Folks

Quick question, and I apologise if this has been asked before, or if it is a stupid
question :)

I will be doing in place upgrade on one of our systems here, and it has the IMC

process to do in in place upgrade of a server running E55 SP4 the IMC:

Any hints tips from people who have done this before would be great

IMC Errors

2002-02-20 Thread Dan Yarrow

Hi Folks

I seem to getting these errors from time to time, and I'm not too sure if I should be
worried about them:

RE: Exchange 2K SMTP question

Exchange 2000 actually layers above IIS 5.0. E2k uses IIS's SMTP Service for SMTP
connectivity. This being said IIS must be installed before you can install E2K.

100% agree with Mr. William..
I also recommend a product for IIS called SECUREIIS by
eEye.com. It works very well with IIS 4.0/5.0 and protects against virtually
any DOS/Hack attacks. Costs about $800 per server, and very reasonable for
what it does. MS is looking at it as well. Between that, SSL and a Firewall

you need to punch in the internal firewall basically denigrates your

I'm simply looking for anyone who has migrated from e5.5 to e2k with

RE: How to move IMC from one server to another

2001-11-26 Thread Dan Yarrow

ahhh ok... :)

Well my situation is :

two servers in one site... one has dedicated mailboxes the other has mailboxes and and
the IMC. The new system will replace the one with the IMC. I plan to install the new
server into the same site and move all the users from the old system to the new one.
After that has done it only leaves the
IMC to be migrated.

All of our mail will be held on a UNIX system via MX priorities, so loosing mail is
not a problem.

So with that info, does that help ? :)

Is the IMS on it's own server? Does it have user mailboxes on it? How is it
connected to the outside world? Answer's to these questions will affect the
process. It is possible that if the IMS is on it's own serevr without any
user mailboxes that you can isolate the IMS for some time whilst you test.

Do you have the liberty of being able to use two IMSs in parallel? If so,
that is by far the best way to go. It will allow mail to flow through the
old IMS whilst you hook up the new one and gradually "phase in" the new one,
probably using Costs.

(You will have to adjust your inbound config as well - I don't know what
that is so can't help you with that)

If you don't have this option then best thing I found was to not bother
copying queues - it's a real mess. Use the flush queues startup option in
the IMS to flush the queues so that your IMS has nothing in it's queues then
stop your IMS and all mail is queued at the MTA and on your external system
(possibly your ISP?). Move your IMS using imccopy or, in fact, you can just
add the new IMS. imccopy gives you the peace of mind that you've remembered
to do everything like Connection info, address spaces, etc but it's not
mandatory. Adjust the old IMS so that no mail will be sent via that route
(delete Address Space, change Costs). Recalculate routing when you have
finished adding the new IMS. Restart the MTA. Ensure the new routing has
replicated through your site and restart the MTAs on all other servers in
the site. Send a test message and track it!

I've written this off the top of my head so I'm sure I've forgotten
something so test this first!

Dan,

There is something in the Resource Kit called imccopy.exe which will
duplicate an IMS (i.e. it's Directory entry) and it's queues and allow you
to import it into a new server. It uses standard import/export files for
Exchange admin.

Subject: How to move IMC from one server to another

Hi Everyone

I'm looking for some advice. I'm installing a new server in an Exchange 5.5
site which will replace an existing system. The old system is running the
IMC for the site, and I am wondering if anyone has any tips for moving the
IMC from the old server to the new system?

If I simply uninstall the IMC on the old server, and install it on the new
system, will this screw up existing internet addressing in my directory ?

Any advice would be great

Cheers

Dan

Dan,

There is something in the Resource Kit called imccopy.exe which will
duplicate an IMS (i.e. it's Directory entry) and it's queues and allow you
to import it into a new server. It uses standard import/export files for
Exchange admin.

Outlook 2001 for the Mac and exchange 5.5 issues

2001-11-22 Thread Dan Yarrow

Hi Folks

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this problem when using Outlook 2001 for the Mac
and Exchange 5.5 SP4? A user tries to send a standard email with a word attachment,
and the system will return a bounce similar to the one below:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

This only happens with Mac clients, and it doesn't always occur.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know the "trick" with permissions on a mailbox isn't
honoured by OL2k...

Eg I have a mailbox with the User permission in Exchange admin.. but
when they go to open the mailbox either via "open other users calendar

a "unable to open mailbox error"?

Has anyone seen this before, and if so do they have a work around?

There are always issues.

However, by putting Exchange on Windows2000, you've helped eliminate some of
those issues. It'll be easier with Exchange already on W2K rather than
still on NT.

Exchange clustering

2001-09-10 Thread Dan Yarrow

Hi Everyone

I am looking for some good advice on Exchange clustering. To give you some background
information..

SYSTEM SETUP

3 x Exchange 5.5 SP4 systems running in the same org and site:

Sever 1 IMC PRIV and PUB Stores
Server 2 PRIV Store
Server 3 PRIV Store

MY OBJECTIVE

Migrate Server 1 to a Highly Available Exchange cluster which should support a
concurrent userbase of 850 users and storage to support a userbase of 1000 users with
a 200MB quota.

Sever 1 is already attached to a Compaq SAN via Fibre Channel so the diskspace is not
a problem.

ADVICE:

Basically I can see three options, and with these options are pro's and cons..

Option 1 Run Exchange 5.5 on an NT4.0 cluster

Pros
The exchange system can be installed into the same site and the users can be simply
migrated to the new Highly Available (HA) system.

No change to global System layout

Cons
To upgrade from e5.5 to e2k there may be issues with doing a rolling upgrade on the
cluster.. I am no expert on performing a rolling upgrade on Exchange or win2k

Option 2 Run Exchange 5.5 on a W2k Cluster

Pros
The exchange org layout doesn't get changed and the users can be migrated
The cluster is running under w2k and can take advantage of the newer clustering / load
balancing technologies

Cons
There could be stabiltiy problems with running e5.5 on a w2k system (once again I have
never done this) with patches etc
Migration issues ??

Option 3 Migrate to ek2 and run a cluster

Pros
Org is running in full AD evironment and w2k cluster technologies

Cons
Have to migrate to w2k/ads before even attempting to migrate to e2k.
ADS implementation will take time and money

SoooOOo yeah there it is :) I would like to hear from anyone who has done or is in the
process of doing anything similar to what I am trying to acheive.

Thanks in advance

Exchange Web error

2001-09-10 Thread Dan Yarrow

Hi folks

Has anyone seen this before?

App: E 'Tue Sep 11 01:01:21 2001': MSExchangeWEB - " End of the data reached while
looking for token -7d120822848. "
App: E 'Tue Sep 11 01:01:21 2001': MSExchangeWEB - " Read Client returned failure.
Last Error is 10060. "

My system:

Windows NT Server 4.0 Sp6a with latest QFEs
Exchange Server 5.5 Enterprise SP4 with all hotfixes
IIS4.0 With all hotfixes

I have patched my OWA against the recent released Security Bulletin: MS01-047, which
was the GAL exploit, and I have never seen this error on my system before applying
this patch. Is this an error from an attempt perhaps ?

The only info on the support site was:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q252/7/12.ASP

Has anyone else got any other info about this ?

Any help would be great

Cheers

Re: msg looping

2001-08-29 Thread Dan Yarrow

The server that generated the error is our Main server which has the IMC
installed on it as well as hosts a private info store. there are two other
servers in this site.

This is one of a few errors logged..

Hi Everyone

I have been using Mailbox Manager for a bit now, however I find I would like
to audit/delete Msgs that are older than X days which haven't been read.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this, or a tool/script
that could do it ?

Any help would be great

TIA

  Ok
I hope that you have tried to change the password and login to see if that
will work ? Or try login with an admin account ? What version of Exchange are
you running, do you have password expiration on ??

  we seem to get
this after the patch was applied.
  The Error is
displayed after the user is authenticated "Your Password is about to expire in
0 days.  To Change your password, go to the Opetions page after
  login"
  I have tried editing
the CONSTANT.INC file as per some support documents, however that didn't
  help.
