Re: Mail stuck in Outbox

2002-07-03 Thread Dianne Roberts

I was just reading this thread as I am having the same problem. Mail stuck
in the Outbox for a VPN user on a PST. This thread is a few weeks old and I
was just wondering if the problem ever came back (Teresa)?

Well, I've resolved this, though I still don't understand the cause (and
if
anyone can shed light on it I'd be grateful). I deleted the users mailbox
and recreated it. This solved the problem. I don't understand why it
would
when I could log on as him and access the mailbox just fine from a couple
of
different computers AND he could access his mailbox just fine through OWA.

Anyway, I did it as a desperation measure and it worked, in case anyone
else
 experiences this problem.

Re-install of TCP/IP didn't fix the original profile, but it did let him
send using the new one. So, now I'm really confused. If it's something
with his mailbox on the Exchange server, why can it be accessed just fine
 from other computers?

I'm up for long shots now, I even tried having him start the mailbox with
a
 the /cleanfreebusy and /cleanreminders switches.

Thanks very much to everyone who has suggested things. I really
appreciate
 it.

Okay a new piece of information. I created a new mailbox and had him add
that profile (with no other). He was able to check names and add it
successfully, but when he attempts to send a message to me he gets an
error
that 'no transport protocol is available'.

Yes, I did check this as well. This is why I'm so stuck, I swear I
checked
ever single thing I could think of. I know it's got to be something I'm
overlooking, but this is really confusing.

I have seen two of these lately.

One was a corrupted user profile, but you've checked that.

The other was simply the delivery options (tools - services - delivery).
Some ancient Win95 fax application had added a MS-Mail based entry to the
top of the order, before the MSExchange transport option. You mention that
you've checked their settings, you probably checked this also?

 Cheers,
 Marty

I have done all of this. One point that I may not have emphasized is
that this was working fine and then suddenly not. My gut tells me
there is something with MAPI that is causing the problem. On one user
he is using the same connection, same setup, just a different machine
  and it works fine.
The other user doesn't have a second computer to test with.
  They are both
off work now so I can't try the telnet, but my guess is that
  it will work
since everything else has. (Including OWA from their machines.)

In any problem like this there cannot be too much detail about the
details. It's what you HAVEN'T told us that will lead to a solution.
And most importantly, it's what makes the working test machine
  different from the
broken production machine that is key.

Are both test and production clients operating remotely via same type
of Internet connection (dialup?) and VPN? If not - do that.

You said the PST was removed from the profile. That means the user
now works online. Make sure your test machine is also working online
with no PST and still works over the VPN. If both of you login to
  the mailbox at

Stange problem - Outlook goes to sleep?

2002-05-01 Thread Dianne Roberts

I have a strange problem and I'm not sure where
it's coming from. We are running Exchange 5.5 and mostly Windows
2000/Outlook 2000 and a couple Windows XP/Outlook XP. Normally,when
a new message arrives, it automatically appearsin Outlook. When you
type a new message and hit send, it goes immediately.

A few weeks ago, a few of usnoticed a
change. Now, new mail only pops up when you're moving around in Outlook
generating activity. I'll be working in another app and pop over to
Outlook, click on a message, then a whole bunch of e-mails come in all at the
same time. When I type a new message and hit send, it sits in the Outbox
until I either click around on messages or click on the Outbox and it
sends. It's almost like it goes to sleep and has to be woke up. All
other network connectivity is fine.

Anyone else ever seen something like this?
Thanks in advance

Disable port 80 on OWA?

2002-01-30 Thread Dianne Roberts

I just got SSL working on my OWA box and now I want
to disable port 80 to force the use of SSL. I would like to leave port 80
open on the default web site, but disable for the Exchange virtual
directory. I can only find the settingson the web site properties,
not on the virtual dir. And then even on the web site properties, you can
only change the standard port, but you can't disable it. Any
ideas?

Exchange auditing

2001-12-17 Thread Dianne Roberts

I need to audit an employee who I suspect is reading other mailboxes
thatthey shouldn't beand need to see when permissions are added or
removed from a mailbox. Anyone know which auditing category covers this and what
level (minimum, medium, etc.). Thank you

Re: OWA in DMZ?

2001-10-31 Thread Dianne Roberts

How do I get started setting this up? I've not worked with SSL and
certificates before. Any detailed instructions or links would be
appreciated. We're using NAT behind the firewall, so how do I route the
requests to the internal box without exposing too much? Thanks

OWA on an internal box with SSL.
You could use your existing internal OWA box, just install a certificate.

 Subject: OWA in DMZ?

Hi all. I'm new to the list, so apologize if this is a duplicate post.
What's everyones opinions on an OWA 5.5 (NT4) box in the DMZ? Primary
Exchange server is 5.5 (NT4) behind firewall (using NAT) and OWA is
already installed on the same box for internal use.

Need to make OWA available external. What is the best way?
 OWA in DMZ?
 OWA in DMZ with SSL?
Use OWA on internal box? (how?)

Tried to install OWA on a test DMZ box, but it failed because it wants a
domain. My DMZ boxes are in a workgroup.

 Opinions, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks
