Need help FAST.....!
Hi all, I am really pulling my hair our and REALLY need help from you guys. I have a SBS 2000 set up and all has been fine, mail coming in from ISP and getting properly distributed to mail boxes ok. That was until yesterday.. Now the mail is being brought in with no problem from ISP but the mail aint being delivered to the relevant mailboxes. The ONLY thing I have done that may have caused things to foul up was yesterday.. I was going to install GFI Mail Security / Essentials, when going through the instructions I found I HAD TO have Virtual SMTP in IIS 5. When I checked there wasnt one within IIS manager despite the fact that according to Components list in add/remove programs it WAS. So I unticked it applied and then reinstalled it. Lo and behold the virtual server appeared in the IIS manager list. Like I said I DONT know this is what has caused it or even if it stopped working immediately after I did this. But its the ONLY thing I have done to the server that I can think of may have caused it. Any help or suggestion would be most appreciated I have some REALLY important email due to come in and am afraid I may have lost them Thanks in advance Graham List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

YeehhaThanks guys. Rob et all your da men !!! Thanks guys.Just one thing..is there a way to get all the mail exchange downloaded from ISP to now be distributed to all the relevant mailboxes OR have I lost them. I am hoping that is not the case or I am in big bother. By deinstalling and reinstalling SMTP you will have lost the Exchange specific extensions for SMTP. I'm not sure whether the same holds out for SBS, but for normal E2K SP 2 there is the smtpreinstall tool. Sorry I don't have the KB handy which points how to do this But you can search for it on microsoft's web site. Title: Message Hi Benjamin. I got GFI Mailsecurity program installed without a problem. However according to the instructions for GFI Mail Essentials downloaded with the latest version you have to do make some amendements to Virtual SMTP in IIS. Now that, thanks to Rob and Co I have gotten Exchange up and running again the Virtual SMTp in IIS has once again disappearedHow did you get around it Benjamin. Do you rate the program. Am testing it before rolling it out so would be interested in your thoughts. What version of Gfi were you working on? on the newest version you don't need to create multiple SMTP entries. However Gfi will sit on the smtp port and check all mail. The Gfi Security product will intervene on internal mail, which has nothing to do with smtp I don't think. I had a similar problem with their new version on e2ksp2 where all mail was sitting in the smtp queues for outbound delivery. Your best bet at this time is to remove all the Gfi product, get the mail functional, and make a test box on Monday. -Original Message- From: Graham Cathcart [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, July 28, 2002 7:28 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Need help FAST.! Offline Folder
Title: Message Hope someone can help with this... I havea user who has just taken possession of a shiny new Laptop with Windows XP and Office XP (Outlook 2002). I have set up his Email to look at Exchange Server without any probs. I had to then set up offline folder for him and setup syncronising etc. The problem is this. He has a profile on the same machine that does NOT connect to the server, rather he logs into the Laptop OS itself How do I setup Outlook to use the Offline Folder (OST) file in his other profile (ie the profile he uses to connect to company Network ? If this isnt the best way to do it, have you any other suggestions ?? It has been suggested that he can log onto the laptop with his Network username and password, and get logged in, even though the laptop isnt connected to it. Explanation being the laptop willl hold details of recent loggins. If that is the case, how long does the details get held ?? If this is the case and holds it for long period of time, it would negate the need to have a local loggin at all. Cheers Graham Cathcart I.T. Information Officer G.E.D.C. Ltd Tel. Course Information
Title: Message Hi guys Slightly "different" request here I really want to learn how to use exchange and perhaps SQL Server to automate differenttasks within the company. For example, at present each employee rights out there expense claim form by hand, give it to their manager for checking, they either a accept or reject it,if rejected it goes back to employee, if they accept it they pass it ontosomeone in finance whoeither accepts or rejects. Dependent on that it goes to someone in finance who issues cheques or passes it back down to manager. What I want to do is get Exchange/Outlook to do this...i.e employeecompleteselectronic form, which is automatically emailed to manager, if accepted it automaticalygoes to 1st stage finance if rejectedgoes to original sender. Ifnot accepted or rejected within a certain time limit something else would happen... And so on and so on, I think you'll get the picture. Can any of you recommend a course or a book to learn to do so. Any other info/guidance would be gratefully appreciated. Oh nearly forgot, we use Exh 2000, SQL 2000, 2000 Server, have Office XPDeveloper edition, and users within company use various incarnations of Office from 97 onwards. Thanks Graham Cathcart I.T. RE: Calendar problem
Rodney, I had a similar problem only with Exchange 2000 and Outlook 2000 David Michel came up with this solution which worked for me: Open Outlook for the secretary and remove the CEO's mailbox from opening then close it. Then go into Outlook for the CEO and remove all permissions from the delegates tab. Next, right-click each individual folder in the folder list and remove any permissions set here. The exception is that you want to make sure the Folder Visible tab is checked on the Outlook Today permissions tab for whoever you want to see the contents. After you remove all permissions go back to the Delegates tab for the CEO and re-add the secretary with whatever rights you want. Lastly, go back to the secretary and open Outlook using the /cleanviews switch and then re-add the CEO's mailbox to open. This worked for me so hopefully it works for you. Obviously just substitute CEO and secretary with your two users...Might be worth a try Cheers Graham -Original Message- From: Rodney Li [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 02 April 2002 19:36 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Calendar problem Hi All, This user is having a problem with his calendar. It seems that all his appointments are disappearing as time goes by. Basically, what happens is as the week goes by, his items will disappear. For example, it's tuesday and all his items on monday have been deleted and they are in the deleted items folder. When it's wednesday, all the items on tuesday are moved to the deleted items folder. If I do a restore from the deleted items folder, those items will stay in his calendar. The system is Exchange 5.5 and the client is outlook 2000. Now, I have to specify that there is a delegate to the user as well who does the modifications to the calendar. This problem started about 2 weeks ago and nothing has been changed. I checked out the rules and there is nothing in the rules that should delete those calendar items. If anyone has ideas, please advise. RE: strange calendar problem.
Title: RE: strange calendar problem. Hi Stuart, I had an almost exact same problem as you are experiencing. After much guessing by myself, Microsoft came up with the solution:- The first suggestion was to try :- I have a couple of suggestions that may help address this issue. The first thing that I recommend is starting Outlook with the /cleanprofile switch. If that does not have and effect on the situation, try starting Outlook with the /cleanreminders, /cleanviews, and /CleanFreeBusy For more information on these and other startup switches available in Outlook, please see the following knowledge base article. OL2000: Additional Command-Line Switches (Q197180) http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q197/1/80.asp This for me cleared up the problem TEMPORARILY and it reared its ugly head about a week later Then they came up with this one which has worked for me now for over 2 weeks and not had a hint of the problem recurring.. Timed Event
Anyone know of an easy and/or Cheap way (For free if possible) ofdoing the following. My company uses Server 2000 and Exchange 2000. The company has a General email address (e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED]). All mail for the address, up till recently, went to one person and they then forwarded it onto the relevant department. Being a bit cumbersome and a bit of a pain when that person was off sick etc I decided to point the address at a public folder, for which only 3 people have access to. The plan was that one of the 3 would then sift through the PF and do the needful. However, like most seemingly simple things, it doesnt work cause each of the 3 people either forgets to check it OR are assuming that one of the others has done it. Is there a way that IF a message comes in and isnt read or actioned within a set period of time (i.e. 4 Hours) it gets forwarded to a predefined address ??? Sorry guys I know this is a stupid question, but I am working for a new company, tomorrow is day 2. From what I can find on technet/google articles, I can use a mail-enabled contact to forward messages coming tomy domain to another domain, ie [EMAIL PROTECTED] forwards to [EMAIL PROTECTED]. I don't think I would have to setup a mailbox, but figured I would check with you guys. I have done some testing, and this does seem to work fine without the mailbox, but my boss wants to KNOW that this is how it is supposed to work, not just working for some mysterious unknown magical force, ie the Laser Guided Packet-Finder. I have only been able to test this on my lan, as I am currently migrating from BSDI 4.2 Sendmail with Qpopper to Exchange 2000 sp2 with the exact same domain name. When I give the go, hopefully by Wednesday, I need to have this live andrunning. Outlook/ExchServ 2000 issue
Hi, Hopefully someone on here can end my hell and tell me how to solve the following. I am not even 100% convinced it is Exchange but not 100% sure it isnt!! We recently upgraded our Exchange Server to Outlook 2000 from 5.5. All went remarkably well, surprisingly enough ;-). In conjunction we use various forms of Outlook, although the PCs concerned use Outlook 2000. The only problem we have encountered is the following :- Our Chief Exec, gives permission to his P.A. to see, add, edit view his Calendar within outlook. It worked before upgrade. After upgrade it didnt, so deleted permissions and renewed them. She then managed to get into Calendar so all seemed well. That was until she discovered she wasnt seeing all appointments in the calendar. I also have permission and having renewed the permissions from the Chief Execs outlook I CAN see all the appointments. I guessed it may have something to do with permissions server side as I have Admin permissions and she doesnt. So I gave permissions to look at the calendar to my colleague who has the exact same permissions as myself He too gets the same problem as the P.A., as in he only sees some of the appointments within his Calendar. Next guess was the individual PCs involved. So got them to log into the PC I use and try it on that. Unfortunately this showed same problem they both could only see some of the appointments (always the exact same ones) as they did on own PCs. Just to make it even more complicated when my colleague AND the P.A look at his calendar in Active appointments they can see ALL appointments. In every other view They can only see some of the appointments. That to my mind nullifys the thought that it is down to permissions. But, hey, who knows. I have checked the view definitions within Outlook and all seems well. Moreover, I still use the default Outlook settings for views, and therefore when they use my PC, they are using the same settings. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
