RE: email displayed names

2010-06-01 Thread Jackson, Jeff
How do I find the format on DisplaySpecifiers, please? If it's what I think
it is, it is currently Lastname, Firstname, but I've had it set both ways. The
displayName is set to Firstname Lastname, this is what I changed to get the
displayed name in emails to appear Firstname Lastname
em...@company.commailto:em...@company.com.

I'm not even sure how to ask this exactly, so bear with the rambling...

We've always had names in AD and in the GAL displayed as Last name, First name.
So, when a email message was sent outside the company, names appeared as Last
Name, First name em...@company.commailto:em...@company.com. I was asked to
change that so messages displayed the name as First name Last Name
em...@company.commailto:em...@company.com. So, that was easy enough, then I
get the next call... Once I got it displayed as fname lname in messages, it
switched to fname lname in the GAL, but they still want it to be lname, fname
in the GAL. Any ideas on how to get the best of both worlds?

All of my BIS users have gotten prompted for a password since last night's
debacle. We can't seem to get around this. Google gives me old info and nothing
current since last night.
Anyone else seen this?

I have a day old BES but I won't be able to get them converted right away.

I had this happen a while back, ended up rebooting the file server and
the problem was resolved. Hasn't happened since. Would love to know what

Subject: Problems with PST files on a Network Drive.

Hi

Since Friday afternoon I have been having some people report that they
can not open their PST files.

All PST files are stored in users home drives on the Network.

When trying to open the file from within Outlook they are told that they
do not have permission to open the file. However they have full read and
write access to the file. I reapplied permissions just in case. If I
copy the PST locally then the file can be opened. If I copy the file
back to the Network drive the error message changes to, Outlook can not
open this file

I know that Microsoft does not support PST's on a Network drive but we
have worked this way for many years and I know that lots of other people
do as well.

Anyone any idea what may be happening here? It's affecting about 10% of
our users at the moment and as I said earlier started happening on
Friday afternoon. The clients are running a mixture of Office 2003 and
Office 2007. We use Exchange server 2003.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Exchange 2007 with FE server but no admin userid\password

The ease with which this can be done is a great reminder as to why the
physical security of servers is so important. I use the SystemRescueCD
to do passwords resets:

Assuming or a member server you can use a boot CD to blank the password,
its pretty simple.

Just got a new client who recently fired several IT staff without
securing userids and password for everything. In particular the admin is
unknown for the front end server. Anyone have first hand experience
with Windows 2003 password hacks or have other ideas for how to access
this server?

Cheers.

Maybe just rename the .n2k file instead of deleting it. Then you can go
back to it, if it isn't the problem.

The file will be re-created when they start using Outlook again.
Deleting it would help pinpoint the problem.

I guess I could try that, but I'd rather not because the users really
like to use that feature for easy addressing of emails. It seems like it
may or may not be related to that, as we used the autofill option for
several years without these issues.

It just seems to weird that they can send an email without the extra
address showing up in the To: field, and then it's somehow added when
the email is sent.

Have you tried clearing the .nk2 files on the PC? (the autofill for
Outlook)

Close Outlook and delete the .nk2 file on the PC. See if the issue
persists afterwards.

Subject: Bizarre Outlook issue.. HELP

Okay, I used to think my users were crazy. Scratch that.. I still think
they're crazy, but some weird things are going on with multiple people,
so I don't think it's just a simple user screwed up issue.

For the past few months, several users have been having issues in
Outlook (2003) where they either start a new email, or hit reply, and it
ADDS an address to the To: field at random. It seems to be an address
that an email was previously sent to from that account.

What's bad is that it happens with customers. So, for example:

1. I send an email to, say, Joe, talking about how we're having
trouble with a job for customer A.

2. Joe replies to my email, yet somehow, a random email address
(typically another customer, like customer B) is magically added to the
To field.

3. Customer B replies with a WTH??? email.

4. People look at me with extreme frustration

Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't think it's that they're
accidentally hitting a key and it's using autocomplete to put a name in.
The user that it happened to twice today swore that she checked the To
field several times before sending the second email where this occurred
(because obviously she was very nervous after it happened the first
time.)

Thanks,

Evan

RE: Tracking disk space consumption

2008-01-30 Thread Jackson, Jeff
Rather than make a screen shot in system manager, why not just click the export
button and dump it to a CSV file?

But I think Chris Blair's suggestion of using
http://techtasks.com/code/viewbookcode/229 is better. But, I'd mod it to write
to a CSV instead of the pop up dialogs...

Dear all, the partition that our mdb files live in is consistently reducing in
free space by about 2 GB a day.

Short of looking at mailbox sizes on a daily basis, and seeing a day to day
delta for each mailbox, is there a way to work out where the disk space is
going?
