Install Exchange exactly as the production envt. using the same computer name, service account (+password) and Org/Site structure. When restoring do not use the no loss restore option, and the IS should start. Running the consistency adjuster will then create a directory to match the mailboxes restored.

The logs from the install and the logs from the restore won't match and the IS won't start. Disabling no loss restore will allow the current logs to be overwritten by those from tape.

I was successful with building a BDC on the network, then removing
it from the network and making it the PDC in the lab. That gave
me all the correct SAM/SID information, and I had no problems restoring.
I just thought there might be some way to restore the Server in a completely
separate lab? Technet says that if you do the isinteg -patch and run
the consistency adjuster, that you will then have an account with
a correct SID in the lab. I must be doing something wrong.

I'm trying to build a Test lab for Exchange and test restoring our Exchange
backups.
I have given the test lab the same Computer Name, Site Name and Organization
name. However, I cannot complete a successful restore. I believe this is
because
the SAM accounts do not match. I've tried just restoring the Information
store
first, and then running an isinteg -patch, followed by running the
consitency adjuster,
just like Technet suggested. However, either the Information Store
would not start, or I would get a communications error with the Exchange

I appear to be running in circles here. Has anybody restored their Exchange
site
to a Test lab that didn't have a matching SAM or SID?

Thanks!

Move user to new recipient container

Title: Move user to new recipient container

I am looking for a way to move a user between recipient containers without exporting mail, deleting the mailbox, creating a new mailbox, importing the mail into the new mailbox and assigning the old X500 address. Is there any way for this to be done through raw mode by changing certain attributes? Searching for this in Technet has brought me nothing, but I suspect it would require just the right wording in a search. If someone has a method, does this work when moving a user between sites also?

We had 2 exchange 5.5 servers in our NT environment. One was the
bridgehead server (mailserver 1)that connected to our parent site. Both
contained mailboxes. I recently moved all users to non bridgehead server
(mailserver 2). I made mailserver 2 the bridgehead server and almost
everything works great. The problem is some users get the following
message:
Unable to update free/busy data. The contents of this public folder are
currently unavailable. Either the Microsoft Exchange Server computer
servicing this public folder is down or the public folder has not been
replicated to this server.

Also, when I try to access some Public folders, my Outlook XP client says
it's trying to connect to the former bridgehead.

I left the orignal bridgehead listed under sites in exchange admin because
I wanted to make sure everything worked properly.
Does anyone know what I need to do to resolve this? I'm assuming I need
to bring the old bridgehead back up and move a role, just not sure what.

RE: Exchange 5.5 Test DR

2002-05-15 Thread MACBETH, Randy

Carol,

If you build the DR server as an offline PDC and create a service account
with the same username and password as the production service account, you
can restore the Information Store, but not the directory. You can then run
IS/DS consistency adjuster to create the directory objects to match the
mailboxes which were restored. The identical directory hierarchy will have
to be in place for the IS/DS adjuster to create the mailboxes. This won't
use your production SAM database, so any accounts will have to be created
manually.

If all you need is to restore a mailbox, its much easier to simply add the
DR server to the existing production network.
Simply redirect the Info Store Restore to the DR box, Run the Consistency
Adjuster, apply the necessary perms to the restored mailbox and spit it out
to a Pst. Since you are creating a new site and org on the DR server, you
dont even need to use the existing prod SA account.

In Exchange5.5, once you eliminate site addressing as a tool for this, you
are left with an export/import of directory information.

Export to CSV, edit in Excel or something, reimport.

This is much easier in Exch2000.

I am running several several Sites with several servers in one organization.

One site has multiple operating companies, and those companies have begun to

look for their own email domains.

The current format is [EMAIL PROTECTED] which will remain intact. The new
format will be [EMAIL PROTECTED] Since this will only
affect a percentage of users and will also change the alias of the mailbox,
making the change in the Site Addressing box will not achieve the goal,
since only one SMTP address can be specified.

Does anyone have suggestions for making this type of change? Technet
articles I have seen suggest manual changes to the mailboxes, but this isn't

really feasible.

How is this user different than the others?
Do you have other domains, OUs, or policies that differentiate this user
from
the other users? The error code implies relaying.

As Kelly mentioned, was anything changed that would go into effect after the
