RE: Autodiscover IIS issue
Yes, autodisover has entries in DNS and is also included in the cert. I get the same results browsing to mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com. Wireshark is a good idea, I'll get that installed and see if I notice anything. That was the only way I was able to get ours to work error free. I loaded up Wireshark and saw that Outlook 2007 was calling for that DNS record specifically. As far as the errors you listed I think I got those same errors on the Exchange server, but if I went to a work station with Powershell loaded (I also happened to have Outlook 2007 on that machine, don't know if that makes a difference) then I did not get the errors. Unfortunately I don't have any documentation on the troubleshooting I did, so this is just off the top of my head. RE: Spam Filter / Anti-Spam
I wholeheartedly agree. Back in '01 I started learning linux systems to try and stay ahead of the curve, but in '04 did some consulting for a web dev/hosting company that had FreeBSD servers running their sites. After having to figure out and use what I thought was an archaic UNIX OS, I learned was a far more organized and stable platform. It's not the best in every situation like anything else, but for the most part, it can meet or exceed any comparisons with the top linux distros. One issue I have had is with proprietary software from vendors that will only run on RedHat or Solaris, where you will need to make a decision to either change the software or the OS. Matt -Original Message- From: Kurt Buff [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2008 4:23 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Re: Spam Filter / Anti-Spam Depends on what you mean by special. Heh. Long ago, I tried lotsa flavors of Linux - slackware, redhat, and a couple of others. That was before 2000. At about that time I joined a little startup that was embedding FreeBSD in an appliance for video streaming - they've since gone bust. But, I played with, and then seriously used, FreeBSD in 2000/2001, and never looked back. There are lots of reasons, but one good explanation for it is here: http://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/rants/bsd4linux/bsd4linux1.php For me, all of the above applies, but the strongest reasons are what I consider a sane system for maintaining and upgrading my machines (ports and packages, plus the buildworld/buildkernel process), the lack of fracture and squabbling in the community, and also a sane way of organizing the directory hierarchy on disk, WRT where system binaries are kept vs. userland stuff. Almost always It Just Works, and when I'm ignorant enough to either screw things up or not understand how to get them going, the lists are incredibly helpful. This, in spite of the fact that FreeBSD doesn't always have the latest and greatest programs available, and isn't really the world's spiffiest desktop. I don't generally care about XWindow stuff. I work from the command line or a web page, and 99+% of the time FreeBSD does *exactly* what I want. Linux is good, but FreeBSD happens to fit me better. YM Will Vary. Hi All, I have a weird one. I inherited this one around 20 hours ago. Its Exchange 2k (build 4417.5 - what SP is that?) on Win2k server SP1. The server has not been backed up since March 2000, if at all. The priv.edb is 3.5Gb, the log files are 15.5Gb - they ran out of drive space yesterday. Backup Exec gives access denied to directory when trying to backup the information store. NTBackup completes in 1 sec and skips all files, saying they cannot be restored. BE runs as local system on the same machine. I tried creating a new user, adding it to Exchange Servers group and fed it to backup exec - same error. I also tried - for troubleshooting purposes - delegating full control of the exchange organisation to the everyone group with no luck. I have reversed these changes. Any thoughts on where I should look? I suspect active directory might be broken - I don't know the history to be sure. Public Folder Replication from 5.5 to 2000
While migrating the network from NT4 Exch 5.5 SP4 to Exch 2000, we have run into problems with the ADC creating duplicate mailbox accounts causing smtp mail to stop working and found the Primary Connection agreement to be the cause. Since then, we have changed the CA to a One-Way from Exchange to Windows agreement (non primary), but even with replication set up between the 2 servers, the Public Folders will not replicate to the Exchage 2000 server. At this point, is there a way to go back to using a Primary connection agreement without killing our network, or is there a way to replicate the Public Folder information without a Primary Connection agreement? Yes, you may have to run either VMware or Terminal services on the Unix clients to be able to use OWA/Exchange. I will probably use Owa as the mail client because I am not sure if the others have a client that works with exchange server. The reason for Exchange is for the groupware type functionality (calendaring, public folders etc) that they can't get with Sendmail. I have very little experience with Linux/Unix. Hopefully (albeit stupid) this is a simple question(s). How does Unix/Linux logon to an NT domain?...can logon policies be setup within this domain?...is Owa the way to go for email clients? RE: Exchange 5.5 question
The ADC setup must be on a Global Catalog server. Make sure you read all the doc's you can find. After you install the ADC dont create any connection agreements with your 5.5 server. You will have to run the /forestprep and /domainprep first. This consists of running Exchange 2000 setup with the appropriate switch D:\ENGLISH\EXCH2000\ENT\SETUP\I386\SETUP.EXE /FORESTPREP then run D:\ENGLISH\EXCH2000\ENT\SETUP\I386\SETUP.EXE /DOMAINPREP Try this link for more info http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/TechNet/prodtech nol/exchange/deploy/depovg/e2kguide.asp Regards, Matthew Bullock Technical Support Troika Networks, Inc. 805.367.2728 -Original Message- From: Bob Chyka [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, September 21, 2001 11:30 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Re: Exchange 5.5 question ok i have the AD connector from exchange 2000 sp1. i am logged in as the domain admin who is a part of every major group including schema admins etc. when i go to load the connector on the member server, it says that i do not have the rights to upgrade the schema. i have full rights...any suggestions there? thanks for your help..
