RE: virus scan
I've had this with Groupshield, it's a feature. You need to configure the on demand scan to not block the attachment '_??' Also, you'll need hotfix 7 and need to configure the options regarding macros - don't select 'enable macro heuristics' and 'find all macros'. I can't remember the article off the top of my head but it was in the NAI knowledgebase Hopefully that should resolve the problem -Original Message- From: aci [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 18 January 2002 03:17 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: virus scan I was told that this was not a virus and that it was a problem with the detection message where no detection name is given, is an error message that is given by the engine and misinterpreted by the GUI product, not a detection by the DAT files. RE: Errors uninstalling Groupshield 4.5
Steve I've had the same issues. You can download an installer cleaner from Microsoft - can't remember the link off hand though it was easy to find. If that fails (like it did with me) then its regedit time - remove every reference to Mcafee and reboot. Groupshield's uninstall is pretty much useless. The permissions problem you've had I experienced as well. You need to use Q261092 as a reference and adapt it accordingly Hope this helps Neil -Original Message-From: Steven Hardy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: 12 December 2001 17:23To: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: Errors uninstalling Groupshield 4.5 Hello, Myself and a colleague are trying to remove Groupshield 4.5 from a Windows 2000 SP2 server thats running Exchange 5.5, as we are trying to convert the virus protection software to another package. I was able to remove Netshield ok. However, my colleague tried to remove Groupshield from the Add/Remove programs tab. The program came back and said we had to remove it using the setup.exe file used to install the program. When we run setup.exe, setup goes into maintenance mode like it is supposed to, and we can click Remove All. However, when the uninstall routine starts, it errors out with two error messages. The first one says "DAPI Error : - Unable to find object /o=(Org name)/ou=(OU)/cn=(first cn name etc)". All we can do is click ok. Then another message appears from the installer, saying that it can not determine which version of Exchange we are running, 5.5 or 2000. We are logged in as Administrator (not the exchange administrator account - will this make a difference ?) Has anyone else encountered this ? Of course, Network Associates does not offer per-incident support. We are trying to remove the product, and I don't want to pay out $800.00 for a support contract just to get support to remove the product. I have searched both Mcafee's knowledge base, and Google.com to no avail. Any ideas, advice etc would really be appreciated. Does anyone know how to remove Groupshield 4.5 manually ? RE: Port 113
Title: RE: Port 113 Martin, I had this issue with my ISP - apparently many do use it. A lot of inbound / outbound SMTP traffic was being denied by the firewall. I found by allowing inbound traffic on this port from my public IP address and mapping it to my Exchange Server IP the problem went away. Hope this helps Neil -Original Message- From: Martin Blackstone [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 06 December 2001 14:22 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Port 113 I am noticing a load of blocked port 113 attempts in my FW log since we have started moving to Exch server. I read the stuff below and wonder if anyone else is doing this? How port 113 can cause problems with your email One system that still regularly attempts to use Authd is sendmail, a very popular mail server. It will try to establish the userid of a user initiating a connection to send mail. While it not requires a successful reply to function, it will wait up to 5 minutes in its default configuration for a reply from Authd. Many firewalls are setup by default to not reply at all to connection attempts. This will make sendmail wait the specified timeout duration before accepting any mail. If you instead have the firewall reply with a 'connection rejected' message, the mail server will stop waiting and process your mail right away. So if you installed a firewall and have noticed that your email service has gotten sluggish, see if there is a correlation between your sending mail and your firewall logging accesses to port 113. If so, try opening up port 113 on your firewall so that the mail server will be happy.
