Internet email

2002-05-27 Thread Robbins, Geoff.

I have been asked by a manager to set up an email box that will allow
incoming smtp mail but not be able to send outgoing smtp.

I know how to stop a user sending and receiving, but one way?

We are using Exchange 5.5 Enterprise with SP4 on NT4 SP6a.

TIA

Geoff Robbins

RE: Internet email

2002-05-27 Thread Robbins, Geoff.

Thank you Mr Snook, solved. Mind you, when I looked at it I presumed
(incorrectly) that this would stop email in both directions.

Thanks again.

Moving OWA to another server

2002-05-13 Thread Robbins, Geoff.

Although I am fairly competent with Exchange, I need a bit of assistance
with OWA.

We currently access all OWA traffic through one Exchange server. However,
we want to move that to another Exchange server so that the old server can
be decommissioned.

I have had a look in TechNet but without success. Can anyone advise how to
do this? We are a Ex5.5 SP4 house running IIS4.

TIA

RE: Moving OWA to another server

2002-05-13 Thread Robbins, Geoff.

The problem I had was that we have one new server and two old servers.

New-server1 has all the current users on, whilst old-server1 has the
bridgehead and old-server2 is the OWA server.

Our plan is to commission a new server (new-server2), divide the users onto
the two new servers, make new-server1 the bridgehead and new-server2 the OWA
server.

The servers are and will be in the same site but with new names.

Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone, I heard it through the grapevine, that I am not backing up
my Exchange Server the best possible way, and I was hoping that some of
you can give me some advice. I am currently backing up the Exchange
Server / individual mailboxes / Brick Level. The reason I am doing so
was on suggestion by the ArcServeIT people. They said that ArcServeIT
software worked best when you only do a brick level backup. But then a
colleague said that Exchange doesn't Flush out certain files, unless it
is backed up correctly. can someone please explain this to me, and
possibly tell me the better way of backing up Exchange.

Thank you all in advance for all of your help.

Title: RE: Moving Exchange 5.5 off of a NT 4.5 SBS Server (solution)

That's
interesting. Microsoft tech support say otherwise. just add as a
member server or as a BDC.

Is it
not possible to add the server to the organisation and site as another server
then use Move Mailbox to the new server? I've spoken to Microsoft who told
me that you can add another Exchange server to the site.

Or am
I just being naive?

1. Search Google for "Ed Crowley Server Move
Method". Print it. 2. Print the MS KB
articles Ed mentions. 3. Carefully, very
carefully, perform the move exactly how Ed describes.
After it is done, quietly wonder to yourself what an incredible
piece of IT work you just accomplished- and how little it will be appreciated by
the organization.

Exchange 5.5 off of a NT 4.5 SBS Server
Does any one have any experience of moving Exchange 5.5 off of a
server running SBS 4.5 onto another server.
I would like to move it to a Win 2000 server in the same
Domain.
I would then like to make the SBS Server into full NT 4 server
before eventually migrating fully to a win 2000
domain.
Currently the SBS Server is only running Exchange and file and
print services.
Thank you in advance for ant help.

Outlook sharing problem.

2002-02-12 Thread Robbins, Geoff.

I have come across a problem with a user sharing their calendar. The user
that was trusted with modifying the calendar has had her machine changed
(from W98 to W2K). When opening the other users calendar, I get a cannot
open calendar error.

We are using Exchange 5.5, SP3. The Outlook client is 2000.

I have gone to the sharers machine, removed and reapplied the permissions,
but without change. There is another user trusted with sharing the calendar
and she still has access.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I did think about that but discounted it when I noticed that both users who
have permissions to access the calendar are on the same server.

Thanks for the thought though Steve.
