Ok, not sure where to fix this.

I have a small office with nt4 domain/network and exchange 5.5/sp4. We are
using a win2k server as a NAT firewall, Mail Essentials and put OWA on it as
the front. However, only the admin account can open any of the mailboxes
thru OWA. I remember in NT4 you had to add the logon locally so I did that
for the nt4 exchange box, and the win2k FW box for the everyone group but it
still doesn't work. I get access denied for all users, but the admin can
still open every mailbox on the system. Any other rights I could be
overlooking?

Thx

I have a site with 2 Exchange 5.5 SP3 servers on Win2k SP2. I wanted to move
the IMS from one server to the other. Before I could install a new IMS on
the second server I had to add a DNS suffix to the machine, which i did,
followed by a reboot. Since doing that I have lost connectivity between the
two servers. Messages are queueing up in both MTAs. From each server I can
ping and RPCping the other server. Name resolution seems to be fine, but the
mail won't flow. I get loads of errors "An interface error has occurred. An
MtaBindBack over RPC has failed.". I have since removed the DNS suffix from
the second server (as well as the second IMS) and now mail is flowing again,
bit I need to get that IMS installed! Any ideas?

The server run WinNT 4 SP6a, Exchange Server 5.5 SP4, Proxy server, NAV for

All data in company store on this server included Accounting data (about 5
files each files is over 30 MB and 3 users open a file in the same time),
all files and documents.

Current days, the server is slow and some times the IS/DS stop for several
minutes although I can run Outlook on the server (users cann't view any
folder in Outlook). The data of Exchange is 2 GB for priv.edb and 2.5 GB for
pub.edb

I have a plan to upgrate my LAN and server.
First I will upgrate my LAN from 10 Mb to 100 Mb.
Second I have to buy another Server.
Do you have any suggest which server is correcpond with my company?
Do you have any program calculate the bandwidth that server is using or
needs? (to make a report)

RE: Deleting Legacy Connection / Event ID 929

2002-06-13 Thread Ryan Gorman

Your assessment matches mine. During the migration Internet mail went to the
IMS on the 5.5 server until most to the users were on the E2K server. We
then changed the E2K virtual SMTP connector (to point outwards) and changed
the firewall to direct incoming mail to the E2K server.

The 5.5 server was re-installed from scratch - not an in-place upgrade.

So the question remains - how do I remove references to a server and
connector that no longer exist (without wrecking the working system)

-Original Message-
From: Neil Hobson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]

After a brief look, it looks like the E2k server is trying to reference an
IMS on the 5.5 server, which leads me to the quesiton of how did you handle
the Internet email during your migration? How did you reinstall the 5.5
server with E2k? Was it an upgrade?

I've dug around and it seems to be a legacy connector to the old 5.5

current server name because we kept the same server name. My research
indicates event id 929 is generated during a routing table calculation. How
can I delete connectors that might have been created by the ADC?

To add: You'll need the following code in your macro. Use a function called
AddDate with:

On Error Resume Next
Set myItem = ThisOutlookSession.ActiveInspector.CurrentItem
myItem.Body = Now & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & myItem.Body

Rename the Key to Add &Date and you will be able to use the Alt-D

We are running Win2K, Exch 2K and our clients are all Win XP. According to
article Q310791, an administrator can prevent unwanted programs from
running. This includes viruses and Trojan horse software, or other software
that is known to cause problems.

However the Software Restriction Policy does not show up in Group Policy in
any Win2K DC? Does anyone have an idea why? and how can one write a GPO in
DC to use Software Restriction Policy of XP rahter than going to each ind.
machine to set it

RE: Virus

2002-03-12 Thread Ryan Gorman

Sybari say [1] in [2]
Sophos say [3]

[1] Q: I read that attacks can be carried out against Anti-virus software by
nesting a large number of zipped files. Does Antigen allow the Administrator
to decide how many nested compressed files will be scanned?
A: Yes. If the number of nested attachments exceed the setting, Antigen will
delete the file and place a backup in the Quarantine Area. See
"MaxNestedCompressedFile" in Appendix B of the Antigen Administrators Guide
for information on configuring this feature.

I received this from Antigen this morning.

"Antigen for Exchange found URLSnooper-106.zip infected with
ExceedinglyInfected virus."

I am guessing it found this zip to be infected with multiple viruses. Or is
there a virus called ExceedinglyInfected?

This is something I have used in Excel. It was cut from MS help for VB
applications. Don't know if it will work for what you are doing, but worth a
try.

' we have to wait while the previous command runs.
PauseTime = 5   ' Set duration.
Start = Timer ' Set start time.
Do While Timer < Start + PauseTime
DoEvents' Yield to other processes.
Loop

Slowing Outlook Vbscript macro

2002-02-13 Thread Ryan Gorman

I've got a macro (Outlook XP) that does some Sendkeys - but I need to pause
between key presses. If this was a Wscript VBS I would do

Sendkeys (%f)
Wscript.sleep 1000
Sendkeys (o)

This doesn't work within Outlook. Pointers?
