Free/busy data error

2002-05-16 Thread Scott Burgin

We had 2 exchange 5.5 servers in our NT environment. One was the
bridgehead server (mailserver 1)that connected to our parent site. Both
contained mailboxes. I recently moved all users to non bridgehead server
(mailserver 2). I made mailserver 2 the bridgehead server and almost
everything works great. The problem is some users get the following
message:
Unable to update free/busy data. The contents of this public folder are
currently unavailable. Either the Microsoft Exchange Server computer
servicing this public folder is down or the public folder has not been
replicated to this server.

Also, when I try to access some Public folders, my Outlook XP client says
it's trying to connect to the former bridgehead.

I left the orignal bridgehead listed under sites in exchange admin because
I wanted to make sure everything worked properly.
Does anyone know what I need to do to resolve this? I'm assuming I need
to bring the old bridgehead back up and move a role, just not sure what.
Thanks,

RE: Free/busy data error

2002-05-16 Thread Scott Burgin

Mailserver 1 is still available, just switched off. The Public folders
are actually provided by our parent company. They don't even reside on
mailserver 1, which is interesting.

POP account in Exchange environment

2002-04-24 Thread Scott Burgin

We have an all NT 4 domain with a 5.5 exchange server. We have a few pop
accounts set up for a few people. I've tried to add another one, but with
no luck. Is there some sort of static mapping that has to be set up from
the client to the exchange server before it will work?

RE: Block external email

Thanks.
The restrictions had the option to move the message into the Turf
directory... Where is that?

Transaciton logs in 5.5

2002-01-14 Thread Scott Burgin

We had to turn off circular logging for Arcserver to backup exchnage a
while back. Anyway, the information store won't start up because it says
the transaction logs are too full. I re-enabled circular logging, but the
information store still won't start. Any ideas?

Open someone mailbox with yours, and locating old emails

2001-12-28 Thread Scott Burgin

If within Exchange 5.5 I have inherited permissions to someones mailbox
and then I add their mailbox to my Outlook, should I be able to open their
mailbox while they have it open as well? I can't expand the mailbox
currently and I have full permissions to it. I wondered if it's because
they have their inbox opened.
Also, management asked me if possible to pull old emails from a particular
person from 6 months ago. Other than backups, can this be done? I seem
to remember a setting somewhere in exchange to do this...
thanks,

Re: Host Unreachable in IMC

2001-11-20 Thread Scott Burgin

I had that happen and the problem was one person was having their email
forwarded to a pop email account. The pop got full and would reject the
forwarded email. The IMS would continue to try and send it, which would
clog up the queue. Then others would show Host Unreachable. Once I
turned off forwarding on the problem user, the queue cleared out and all
was good.
Another time I had a similiar issue, the problem was a DNS server.

Good Luck

An email in the IMS

2001-11-12 Thread Scott Burgin

Running Exchange 5.5, sp4 on a NT 4.0, sp6 server.
We have a traveling executive here who had us set up his domain email
account to forward email to his ameritech and aol account.
Anyway, someone sent him an attachment that his Ameritech account rejects.
So what happens is that the IMS queues the email message and continues to
try and send it, but it keeps getting rejected. So he gets these
rejection messages and the IMS fills up and boggs down email traffic. I
went to his local PC and opened up Outlook and found the email that
contained the file that was too big and deleted it early this morning.
BUT!, the message for some reason keeps queueing into the IMS Queue. I
delete them out of the queue, but they keep reappearing. I don't know
what to do at this point.
Help!

I caught it only after a few hours of what the heck is going on.
Thanks a lot!

Strange IMS problem

2001-11-09 Thread Scott Burgin

I'm baffled!
All NT 4.0 network, Exchange 5.5 with sp4, server NT 4 with sp6.
Our email comes through our parent company so the email address is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] We have a partial T1 connection our site with our
parent.
Here is what's happening. External Incoming SMTP comes in fine. External
Outgoing goes out, but extremely slow. Our IMS Queue has a lot of emails
in it. Yesterday, when I would click on details of a message in the
queue, it would say host unreachable. It was weird because I could
email out to a colleges domain and a yahoo account, but not a hotmail or
aol account. This morning, I noticed the hotmail emails finally went out
after hours of sitting in the queue. Apparently, all the emails willgo
out, but it takes 1 - 3 hours. Looking in event viewer, the only error
that appears to be applicable is an IMC error under application. The
error message is event ID 4132, Technet shows that exact event and error
message and suggests incorrect information in the Routing Address tab of
the Connected Sites property page of the Interent Mail Connector. I
checked and all the information is correct. DNS is working properly. Any
suggestion of theories would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks,

Exchange 5.5 outgoing external email

2001-10-02 Thread Scott Burgin

Our outgoing smtp email suddenly quit working. There is no error codes on
the exchange 5.5 server. Incoming smtp works and all internal email
works. It's been rebooted. Event viewer show no problems. Here is the
messages I get when sending out:
501 5.1.8 [EMAIL PROTECTED]... Domain of sender address
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
does not exist
The message that caused this notification was:

It says domain of sender address does not exist
We use our ISP's DNS servers. Is that the problem?
I can nslookup the DNS server that is listed in the exchange server and it
does resolve our domain name.
ANy ideas?
