Exchange Server Full Recovery

2002-07-12 Thread Shamim Rahman
Title: Message

Exchange 5.5
SP4
Windows 2000 Server
SP2

I have one question
in regards to a fullrestore of exchange server and hope someone will be
able to help.

I have Exchange
set-up with log files on a separate physical hard drive. If I have to
reinstall exchangeon this Serverin case of Disaster recovery,I
have to run the Microsoft Exchange Performance Optimizer to optimize Exchange
for the same configuration that was used before. If I were to do this will it
over write the log files? Which I wouldn't obviously want tohappen if I
wanted a complete restore.

I hope this makes
sense!

Thanks

Mail Sending order problems

2002-06-18 Thread Shamim Rahman

Hi,

Can somebody help with a problem that seems to have developed since lat week
with Exchange Server. I will give some background details first:

1. Exchange Server 5.5 SP4
2. 20 users, using exchange for calendar, tasks etc functionality, with
internet email accounts (pop3) for sending and receiving email.
3. Delivery options in Outlook 2000 Tools|Services|Delivery set to Internet
E-mail at the top.
4. Exchange accounts set up with naming convention e.g Joe B (Exchange).

The server was set-up approximately 8 months ago and everything has been
working fine until last Tuesday, when it started to deliver mail for all
users using Exchange instead of the credentials supplied in Internet E-mail.
Recipients of mail are now seeing Joe B (Exchange) instead of Joe Bloggs
[[EMAIL PROTECTED]] in the senders address. Hence when they hit
reply they are actually sending to a non-existent domain.

when one checks a mail in the Sent Items folder, the from address now
says:

Joe Bloggs [[EMAIL PROTECTED]]; on behalf of Joe B (Exchange)

when it was working it used to just say:

Joe Bloggs [[EMAIL PROTECTED]]

At first I thought it was something to do with Outlook, but now realise it
must be at the Server level as this is happening for all users, although the
delivery order has not been changed at all. I have checked everything
obvious and all seems fine - I'm the only person that administers the
Exchange Server and hence know that nobody else has done anything new
recently.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Shamim

Additional Mailboxes

2001-08-17 Thread Shamim Rahman

I set up a support mailbox and gave permissions to several users, but I have
two problems:

1. When any of these users send out mail from support (tests currently), the
messages seem to have the on behalf of in the
from field. Don't know how to get rid of this, I set all the specific
users up with Send As permission in the permissions tab.

2. I removed one of the users from the permissions tab, but that user can
still access the support mailbox.

Any help will be appreciated.

You're running the same setup I have running here. We don't have a
helpdesk per se, so we created a Helpdesk mailbox that users submit their
requests to either by email or task request. With that, everyone in IT
needs access to this mailbox, so in Exchange, go to the mailbox permissions
tab for the helpdesk account you want those users to share, give those users
permission to that mail account. If the permissions tab isn't viewable in
Exchange, go into Tools, Options, Permissions and check the box next to
'show permission page for all objects' -- this is assuming you're running
Exchange 5.0 and up. After permissions have been set, tell the users to go
to their Outlook program, choose Tools, Go into the properties for their MS
Exchange Server Account, go to the Advanced tab, and under 'Open these
additional mailboxes' add the shared user account, and it will open an
additional set of mailbox folders for this shared account, which is separate
from their main Exchange account.

Great...thanks. Maybe you can help me with another issue. These same
users want to be able to read the Help Desk mail account as well as their
email in two separate Outlook Windows. I created two profiles and choose
the option of prompting for which profile they would like to use, but when
they try and open the second Outlook Window it deafults to the Profile
they chose on the first Outlook Window. How can I get it to prompt me
everytime?

Thanks,
Mike

You can do this in Outlook by creating the message, and then choosing
File,
Save As, and change the message type to .oft. The .oft is the outlook
template. You can either save this .oft file to the network so it's
shareable, or what we do here is insert the template into a recurring task
so whenever we get the pop-up task reminder, the .oft template is included
so we just click on it, send it off, complete the task and keep going.
Hope
 this helps.

 Subject: Email Template

 Hello,
My support department wants to create an email template for emails they
send out routinely. These emails always say the same thing so instead of
re-typing them everyday, they want a template. Is there a way to do this
 in Exchange 5.5 running Outlook.

 Thanks,
 Mike
