What about the dumpster always on reg hack that was used in E2K? I haven't
tried it with E07 but when I asked in class about this, the instructor said it
still worked in 2007.

The Export-Mailbox cmdlet will let you export Dumpster items but
only from the Deleted Items folder. This is of limited use but perhaps worth
Robert pursuing:

“If you export data to another mailbox by using the TargetMailbox
parameter, the Export-Mailbox cmdlet also exports

messages from the dumpster of Deleted Items. The messages from the
dumpster are converted to regular messages when

they are exported.”

Exmerge can do this (plus any number of 3rd party tools) - export
the dumpster to another PST for offline review.

If the user has Outlook 2007, you can look at their deleted items
from anywhere - just set up a new profile on their mailbox (of course, you have
to grant that right).

E2007/O2007/OOF issue

2009-05-14 Thread paul chinnery

We have the OOF issue with Outlook2007 where you can only modify OOF via

OWA. I ran the webservice virtualdirectory cmdlet and got
https://ex2007.mydomain.com. However,
when I run Test Connectivity from the
Outlook client I get, https://outlook.mydomain.com. Our SSL
for external
access is set to outlook.mydomain.com. When we moved to E07, I
got a
replacement cert for the new server.
So, thought about the PS
route, but if the cmdlet is already showing ex2007
then I don't see how
running the PS command will make any difference.

P.S. I originally posted this on the ms-exch-misc list but so far, after
posting the above, I haven't rec'd a reply yet.

RE: VIPRE

2009-06-05 Thread paul chinnery

I have it installed on a 150+ network. We were using C/spy so when Vipre came
out, we switched to it from TrendMicro. With the newer versions, it does have
a much lower impact. (However, deep scan can slow a pc down significantly so I
only run it late at night.)
I have had two issues though one of which has not been resolved (and I opened
it up in Februrary). One involved desktop scanning where our Admit clerks scan
a document into our hospital's information system (Meditech). I had to turn off
Act Pro when opening files because the latency introduced was unacceptable.
The other issue, which I understand is to be fixed with hotfix 5, was a d/l
from one server to a pc which is then uploaded. It really slowed down when Act
Pro was running.
We've had it for about a year and, honestly, I've had to defend my push to
Vipre more than I'd like. We have had a few pc's get badly infected by malware
which, I think, should have been caught by Vipre. OTOH, since we had no other
a/v, a/s installed on other pc's, it's hard to say whether a different product
could've handled it better.

I know this is a sunbelt list but I would like to hear some opinions of VIPRE
and how you compare it against other AV, anitmalware products. I currently use
TrendMicro and have no issues with it. It has caught most virus' that come
through and missed a few. I know VIPRE is cheaper and uses little processing
power when it runs. What i am trying to figure out is any downside to moving
over to it. I know when i used counterspy when it first came out we used to
run into problems where it would quarantine files it shouldn't have like
windows associated dll's or something like it. Has this changed? we sometime
deal with some development software and i don't want to get a bunch of calls if
the software is too aggressive after an
 update.

Hope that make sense. I appreciate any input you may have.

David

RE: OOF for Outlook Anywhere user

2009-06-24 Thread paul chinnery

We just moved to E07 and had that same issue. It's more of a DNS issue (at
least, it was for us).
To test, have the user ctrl-right-click on the Outlook icon in their taskbar.
Select Test Email Autoconfiguration. From the choices, select AutoDiscover.
Check out the Availablility Server URL. That may give you a clue to a
resolution.
As I said, for us, we just had to make a minor correction/addition to our
internal DNS server.

Hi Guys

I’ve got a single, very senior user,
who has an issue with seeing other users free busy times. It doesn’t appear
to matter whether it’s on the same server or on another site. Eventually
suggestions time out and the free busy bar goes to the hashed grey line of no
data available.

Anyone got any ideas? I’ve tried with
both cached mode on and off with no luck.

It’s Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and the
user is using Outlook 2007 SP2.

Regards

Peter Johnson

I've noticed something strange happening recently. I used to be subscribed
with my corp. account but unsubscribed set up this account. Sometimes though
when I reply to an email from my hotmail account, my corp. email starts getting
the ntsysadmin messages. It seems like it re-subscribes the account. Then, I
have to send a message and unsubscribe.

RE: All Staff Distribution Lists

2009-08-06 Thread paul chinnery

We've got about 175 users but we handle it pretty much the same way as Ben
described.

However, I've been doing this back to 1996 when we put in MS Mail and I can't
really remember when anybody ever abused the system.*

*Well, I gotta take that back. When I was on vacation in FL back in 2000, one
of the directors passed around the ILoveYou virus (unwittingly of course; he
opened an email and boom-virus time).

RE: OT: Blonde Joke

2009-11-25 Thread paul chinnery

Thanks, Sherrie. That was hilarious. I know a couple of blonds (female) who
will appreciate it.

Subject: OT: Blonde Joke
From: saber...@gmail.com
To: exchangelist@lyris.sunbelt-software.com

The very first ever Blonde GUY joke.

An Irishman , a Mexican and a
Blonde Guy were doing construction work on scaffolding on the 20th floor of a
building.

They were eating lunch and the Irishman said, 'Corned beef and cabbage! If I
get corned beef and cabbage one more time for lunch, I'm going to jump off this
building.'

The Mexican opened his lunch box and exclaimed, 'Burritos again! If I get
burritos one
more time I'm going to jump off, too.'

The blonde opened his lunch and said, ' Bologna again! If I get a bologna
sandwich one more time, I'm jumping too..'

The next day, the Irishman opened his lunch box, saw corned beef and cabbage,
and jumped to his death.

The Mexican opened his lunch, saw a
 burrito, and jumped, too.

The blonde guy opened his lunch, saw the bologna and jumped to his death as
well.

At
the funeral, the Irishman's wife was weeping. She said, 'If I'd known
how really tired he was of corned beef and cabbage, I never would have
given it to him again!'

The
Mexican's wife also wept and said, 'I could have given him tacos or
enchiladas! I didn't realize he hated burritos so much.'

Everyone turned and
stared at the blonde's wife. The blonde's wife said, 'Don't look at me. The
idiot makes his own lunch.'

I hope no Irish, Mexican or blonde guys were offended by this. Have a very
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Yup. Tough list if you were a noob, which I was. It was
pretty frustrating sometimes, since all the “exchange experts” seemed
to think the purpose of the list was to just congregate together and embarrass
anyone
who asked a question that somebody may have asked within the last 6
months. For some of us exchange was/is just another
application we had to support as opposed to a career path.

And god forbid anyone suggest not running Trend, or running brick
level backups.

Steven Wynkoop is still around, in AZ I think, still involved in
SQL stuff last I saw.

That's not quite what he wrote. He wrote that Ex2010 supports O2003.
We have Exchange 2007 and still have a few clients running O2000.
Of course, now that E2010 is close (or is it here already?), why bother with
the 2007 version.

By the polling about as many people who think Health Care reform will destroy

Probably.
Hot button for me as most people don't realize what this will do to small
hospitals. In effect, force them to close or merge with a larger one as the
reimbursement rates for Medicare/Medicaid will drop even further.
Either way, my job will be out-sourced and at my age, 50+, getting another IT
