RE: /3GB switch

2002-01-12 Thread Anthony Getor

Andrew,
Check the links below for some more info on the /3GB switch. It is intended
for W2K Advanced Server and W2K Datacenter Server, except for some special
circumstances. User mode is still limited to 2 GB when this switch is used
on W2K Server.

imho, the /3GB switch causes problems on standard Win2000 servers. Someone
sent me a MS doc talking about why you wouldn't want to run this switch on a
production box - I could probably find it if anyone is interested.

/3Gb seems to be much happier on Win2000 Advanced server though, it actually
does something.

Has anyone persuaded any version of Windows to use more than 3.1Gb of
memory?

Cheers,
Marty

 Hey all,

I have a simple question: Does anyone know if running without the '/3GB'
switch in the boot.ini on an Exchange 2000 server with 2GB of RAM could
cause message delivery problems? The Virtual memory error is showing up
every hour in the event log. The Server is E2k SP1, with about 800
users.

We had a few issues with messages that got delayed in sending out to the
internet, it looks like they were getting stuck in the SMTP connector.
Thanks for any help!

It not the /3GB switch meant for advanced servers. I do not know anyone
using a standard serving but runs OK on AdvServer and E2KE.
