My
experience was the same as Jons. I have one Mac G4 that gets configured via
DHCP, all I added was the Exchange Server name, the mailbox name and the
user info. I have had fewer problems with the Mac than my Wintel
machines.

Keith -

Thanks - sorry if I sounded frustrated - two very vocal users
and I guess ignorance breeds contempt as far as MACs go for
me.

Using Outlook 2001 - when I resolve the name I start with IP
and Alias and resolve to Computer Name and User
name.

Static IP address even on the same subnet plugged into the
same switch as the exchange server.

Not sure about the domain in the Additional Search Domains
will check that first thing in the morning. Already have the
ticket open with PSS - boss didn't care - we will just get in the

Thanks for the advice!

Did you get your problem resolved?
If not are you using Outlook 2001 or Outlook

If your using the old version try Outlook 2001 from http://www.microsoft.com/mac/
Also are you resolving the names using DNS. If so how are
the macs getting their IP address, DHCP or
  static?
On the Mac in the TCP/IP control panel do you have your

We are running Exchange 5.5 sp5 on NT4

have a host file that points to the correct server. They are
able to ping the server I can resolve their name and the server

You don't need SFM on you Exchange
server. I had a similar problem
with a remote user when he put the IP add or dns name
of the server in the server field it would resolve the name and replace the
name with just Exchange ( the name of the server)
underlined so it appeared to be resolving the name at the profile creation
stage yet when he tried to open Outlook it would fail. The problem was that DHCP was not fully
configuring his IP settings, other IP apps like IE still worked though. I had to fill in the DNS and the domain
suffix fields manually.

I believe that Outlook

Microsoft's UAM.

Jim, no problem. I have
50/50 Mac/PC and I would love to toss the macs right now. Haven't messed with
Apple's new OS but apple's currently not focused on network support and the OS
X doesn't have the Apps we need yet. However now that Office X and Final Cut
Pro 3 are out we may look into OS X, Now microsoft just needs to release an OS

My

Keith -

Thanks - sorry if I sounded frustrated - two very vocal users and
I guess ignorance breeds contempt as far as MACs go for me.

Using Outlook 2001 - when I resolve the name I start with IP and
Alias and resolve to Computer Name and User name.

Static IP address even on the same subnet plugged into the same
switch as the exchange server.

Not sure about the domain in the Additional Search Domains will
check that first thing in the morning. Already have the ticket
open with PSS - boss didn't care - we will just get in the queue in the
morning if this doesn't resolve it.

Thanks for the advice!

Possible fix found -

According to PSS and some tests we ran, my Exchange server is not
listening on canc_ip_tcp which is required for MAC connectivity. He has
provided my a hot fix to solve it Q297534 unfortunately he provided me a bum
link to download the fix. So till Monday we wait. No big deal,
luckily the MAC users are off this weekend.

If
anyone wants more details let me know.

Hello
-

Does anyone
know of any whitepapers or troubleshooting guides to help me resolve
connectivity issues with MAC's to my exchange
server?

We are
running Exchange 5.5 sp5 on NT4 SP6a. The MACS are running OS9.1 and
Outlook for Mac and have a host file that points to the correct server.
They are able to ping the server I can resolve their name and the server name
using IP/Alias, but they cannot open their information store. They get
Exchange Server offline error. I can open their store from any real
computer (notice I am NOT a MAC fan) using their credentials and can use OWA
from the MACs.

Any
ideas?

I
know one thing about the macs, is they hate that hosts file
#1.

#2, when they resolve the name go back in and sometimes the name is
changed. Also, make sure you allow clear text (I dont know how to shut it
off mind you) but the macs can only send in clear text I
believe.

Do you have appleshare running on your ntfs volumes? I dont
know if you need this but the few installations I have done involving macs I
always used appleshare as well to help it along..
