Re: Internet Providers

2008-09-07 Thread Mike Sullivan
I had a mixed experience with XO. We had two point to point T1's, one from
Sacramento to Hayward and the other from Sac to Fresno. The Sac to Fresno T1
only had 1 outage and was resolved quickly. The Hayward T1 was a very bad
experience, dozens of outages, slow response times and they never took
ownership of the issues.

The problem would only occur when it was raining. This means the issue was
in the local vault. It took multiple calls to XO before they ever had ATT
change the pairs only to have the issue continue. This happened 3 or times
before our contract ended and we switched to a local ISP O1.com. I let them
know of the issue we were having and it did happen once with them. They must
have had a better relationship with ATT because O1 setup a conference call
with ATT and our branch manager in the Hayward office. Once the call was
completed a week later ATT did some major work on their vault and we have
not had an issue since.

I am in Fremont, CA (15 mins North of San Jose and 25 mins South of San
Francisco). I've used Covad for about 3 years. Excellent uptime, well, except
for very recent outages, and I assume they are related. Two Fridays ago,
there was a router failure which was mitigated within 50 minutes. Then, this
last Friday (actually Saturday), there was an outage from 1am until after
3am. I called at 3am and I was told there were maintenance repairs. The sad
thing is that I did not receive advance notice, but if they were waiting for
replacement parts that arrived Thursday afternoon, then I could excuse it. I
need near 100% uptime with my Covad 1.1 Mb SDSL.

RE: Internet Providers

2008-09-02 Thread Steve Hart
We implemented a new MPLS over Flex service at 4 sites using XO about three
months ago. The technicians, support personnel, reliability (so far) and price
have all been excellent.

The sales and non-technical implementation staff, on the other hand, were
horrible. At least 7 phone numbers were typoed during order entry which
resulted in huge problems on the voice side. We weren't given IPs until hours
before the circuits went live and we went days between returned phone calls.
After our install, the entire implementation team was disbanded and replaced
with a new group somewhere else.

Now that we're passed the hassles, we love the service. We've also had XO in
other locations for years without trouble.

I've had really bad luck with Qwest. We've had circuits down for over two days
twice in less than a year. Bell-South was horrible too.

I don't know if they're in your area but I've had very good luck with
Straightshot communications and also Integra telecom. Both are C-lecs but very
responsive CS wise and get right on the lec who ever that may be. They seem to
have more pull than joe single user.

PS XO promised a circuit in 6 weeks and 9 months later came and said the
circuit was in and we could extend the demarc. Sorry guy's got a different
provider. after 3 thousand phone calls plus email. They still didn't
get the program.

I've had them for internet, phones, and mpls and they always shine.

I always appreciated that when I did have to call in, the person that
answered the phone was able to fix it. Usually on the spot.

I like Paetec also but on the voice side, no dealings with the data side.
Wait, I take that back, I have two 256k data circuits with them and I guess
I forgot about them cause they have pretty much always worked.
