Title: RE: ONStream backups

We are currently stuck using them at our company due to cost restraints of a larger solution. I use a 30 GB and 50 GB for our server backups. Nearly every time I attempt to do a restore, even with tapes only used once, twice, or a brand new tape, I usually have random trouble reading the tape and I end up restoring from another of my numerous backups. Backup Exec shows it as blank media. If the tape is recognized It's not the media, because I can overwrite it later and restore from it with no problems.

Hi.
Does anyone have any experience with Onstream ADR50 backup drives? I'm
looking at one to back up an Exch2K server, and some other Win2K servers
and their data. Budget is extremely limited (what else is new), and
50GB of storage for under $700 looks pretty appealing.

TIA,

We see the same issues here. After using
the tapes for overtwo and a half years with NTbackup, ArcServe and now
VeritasBackup Exec, I also have random issues reading the
tapes. Yes, this is a good inexpensive solution, but we are researching a
new solution for our 2003 budget.

Biggest concern that I have heard is tape availability. If you can get a good supply for your needs, I would go for it.

2002-01-31 Thread Van Otterloo, Brad

I've been using two of them to backup excahnge and 4 servers in our company
for over 1 1/2 years. They have worked great and interfaced easily with
Backup Exec. I have had only one tape that failed in a short amount of
time. They rest have been great. I would recommend them to anyone

I used them for short period of time. They are very slow (especially across
a network), when you get one get a few extra tapes because they may not be
making them in a couple of years.

If you are using internal only on the exchange server with a smaller
datastore (10 gig) then go for it, it should work great.
