Offline Folder

2002-05-29 Thread Graham Cathcart
Title: Message

Hope someone can
help with this...

I have a user
who has just taken possession of a shiny new Laptop with Windows XP and Office
XP (Outlook 2002).

I have set up his
Email to look at Exchange Server without any probs. I had to then set up offline
folder for him and setup syncronising etc.

The problem is
this. He has a profile on the same machine that does NOT connect to the
server, rather he logs into the Laptop OS itself How do I setup Outlook to
use the Offline Folder (OST) file in his other profile (ie the profile he uses
to connect to company Network ?

If this isnt the
best way to do it, have you any other suggestions ?? It has been suggested that
he can log onto the laptop with his Network username and password, and get
logged in, even though the laptop isnt connected to it. Explanation being the
laptop willl hold details of recent loggins. If that is the case, how long does
the details get held ?? If this is the case and holds it for long period of
time, it would negate the need to have a local loggin at
all.

Cheers

Using Offline Folder

2002-05-06 Thread ALEX CHAN

Hi, All

I am using Exchange 5.5 with Outlook 2000.
I already set the filter to restrict the message size for Notebook user, but
how they know what email messages are being restricted. Any log will show
the email header information.

Best Regards,

I
think your confusion lies with the meaning of set the user up locally. The
laptop needs to hold details of the users NETWORK account
login.

Start
| Settings | Control Panel | Users and Passwords

This
info will be used to authenticate the logon when disconnected from the network.
This will work permanently, and it updates any changes such as passwords
whenever it logs onto the network

Cheers

What I left below is how I would do it as well. The cached credentials will
stay indefinitely, so no worries.

I have
a user who has been doing this for several years.  The only complaint I
have had from him was the day he decided to log on to the network from a desktop
machine in the office instead of setting up his laptop and not all of the
shortcuts he had on his desktop worked because the desktop did not have all the
programs he uses installed.

you don't want any local accounts on the lap top.
delete the local account and profile.  have them log in on the
network.  then when they are away the laptop/xp will see no network
connection and log them in with the cached account info.  Always try to log
in to the domain with the laptop.  if they try and do a dialin or vpn they
are ready.  offline folders only works with the network
profile.

Outlook 2000 offline folder sync problem

2002-05-31 Thread Cross, Tom

Outlook 2000 clients get an exception in OUTLOOK.EXE when opening. This
just started happening on O2K clients that use offline folders a couple days
ago. Believe it or not, we have 98 clients that are syncing just fine (go
figure). The server end is 2K server w/Exch 5.5 SP4.

Here's what we've tried:

New profile
New .ost

Has anyone run into this before??

Thanks in advance.
