That happened to me before. It was a couple corrupted e-mails. I tracked them down and deleted them and archiving worked fine ever since. It would archive until it hit a corrupted one, then I deleted it. I did that 3 or 4 times and then it worked. Are you running the Exchange component of Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition on your server? We had a very similar problem where Norton was causing it to time out. If it's anything like our problem it won't let you export the entire mailbox to a .pst file either.
