Re: Cas array question
I have for now set the DNS record of the CAS array with the IP of our Primary CAS server and set the TTL to 5 minutes. But i think it is better to achieve Load Balancing with NLB now,...Since i dont have a hardware LB available. RE: Cas array question
If the two Exchange servers are members of a DAG (I think you said they were), then you can't use NLB for Load Balancing. That's the downside of using multi-role servers. However what you've saved in not buying two CAS/HT servers, licenses etc and using NLB you can buy LBs and have money spare (if you pick wisely). If you didn't budget for either though then there's not tons of options apart from doing what you're doing. RE: Cas array question
Hiya I guess this is in relation to your questions the other day. As you weren't at the moment going to use a load balancer, and those Exchange servers are DAG nodes, you can set the IP in DNS to just one of the CAS servers. If you do that, set the TTL of the DNS record to something like 5 mins so you can update the DNS entry it to the other CAS server quickly in the event of a server failure/planned failover. The downside to this is you don't get any load balancing, and the switchover isn't automatic. But, if you'd not configured a CAS array, you'd be in a similar situation with failover anyway. If you'd had dedicated CAS servers then in absence of a Load Balancer, you'd be able to use NLB - but again this would cost roughly the cost of a decent load balancer anyway. The DNS record is created but then what am i supposed to do now? I never had to configure any IP in EMC, i cannot ping the IP I have set in the DNS (request Time-Out). Is a load-balancer mandatory for a CAS Array? --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.commailto:listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe exchangelist --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe exchangelist
RE: CAS array question
Use two different CAS Array FQDN's, one for each site. In DR, you would change the DNS record to point to the surviving site. Also be sure you set the database property RPCClientAccessServer depending on where the active database is. Primary Site: Redundant CAS, HT, Mailbox servers Split DAG to replicate to DR site All users mailbox will be active at this site DR site: CAS, HT, Mailbox servers DAG copy of mailbox databases So I create a CAS array at each site, CASA-Primary and CASA-DR. What do I use for the FQDN for each CAS array? Can I use the same FQDN in each array, say Outlook.company.com, and the DNS entry would point the VIP for primary site and in the event of site failure I would update the DNS entry to point to the VIP at the DR site? How does this change if we decided to have active mailbox databases at each site, and to make it simple we keep on the 1 DAG? --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.commailto:listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe exchangelist --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe exchangelist
