RE: Change Of IPs
I think only the following 16 class B networks are private: 10.16.0.0/16 to 10.31.0.0/16 The rest are public. Title: RE: Change Of IPs I see issues with proxy, print servers, and your LMHOSTS files off the bat. You did not mention firewall so I assume proxy is also acting as a firewall. I also assume you are running DHCP with NAT. Have you thought about a phased migration. Using two domains. The new domain with 172. Migrate the easy stuff first then change and migrate the more difficult stuff. -Original Message-From: Roger Ali [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Friday, September 07, 2001 1:57 PMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: RE: Change Of IPs I understand but we are running private calls right now and 172.16.x.x is a Class B private. I have 2 questions if you can help 1. We have a proxy, email, outlook web access, vpn, print server, tape backup (ArcServ), and our PDC Servers. Will any services get corrupted or refuse to start if we change the IP Configuration of these servers. If so how can we fix the problems that can occur? 2. We have some off site facilities that may access our servers at the 192.168.x.x network through LMHOST files. My question is can we create MIPs at our routers solve this problem. Please help ASAP as we need to verify this. Thanks Roger Ali List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
RE: Change Of IPs
Title: RE: Change Of IPs Thanks Guys, Good answers thought we got off track there for a sec with the IP Standards. We do have a firewall but I can reconfigure that at any time. The internet access through PROXY is at my leisure so its not a big problem. We are just worried that changing the IP on SQL Servers and Exchange Server will corrupt or prevent some machines from rebooting. I understand the issue of LMHOST files that why we are creating MIPs (Mapped IPs) at the router level to forward the older IP requests to the new IP address. Does this sound feasible, I know its doable but we're more worried about our servers than the internet. I've got nt4.0, 50 workstations + assorted printers and stuff. I did it myself in less than one day. Created a new DHCP scope, recreated WINS. Got to make sure you're MX record gets changed. I don't use LMHosts. My SQL client required some tweaking because I was connecting via IP. -Original Message- From: Chris Hampton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, September 07, 2001 12:46 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Change Of IPs I would very highly recommend phazing you migration in smaller pieces my company has 100 workstations and we did it in one fel swoop and tried to migrate to win 2k at the same time it was bad for our own sanity only do what we did as a last resort. --- Ellery July [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I see issues with proxy, print servers, and your LMHOSTS files off the bat. You did not mention firewall so I assume proxy is also acting as a firewall. I also assume you are running DHCP with NAT. Have you thought about a phased migration. Using two domains. The new domain with 172. Migrate the easy stuff first then change and migrate the more difficult stuff. -Original Message- From: Roger Ali [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, September 07, 2001 1:57 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Change Of IPs I understand but we are running private calls right now and 172.16.x.x is a Class B private.
