Of course,
How could they allow such a config if the moment you failed one db over it
would error?
That would be total breakage.

Joseph,

Thanks for testing this, but it only shows that you can have 2 different CAS
servers for 2 different databases on one Exchange server.

So your setup is testing just one site, in fact just one server. My question is
about accessing a DAG -- which spans 2 sites -- from CAS servers on two
different sites at the same time. Can that be done? Thanks.

RE: DAG and CAS-Array (or CAS server)

2012-03-08 Thread Steve Goodman
Yes that is fine. The CAS or CAS array is specified at a Database level, not a
DAG level. You could have 2 CAS arrays access 1 DAG that spans multiple sites.
You could have 1 CAS server for each database if you wanted to.. You could have
lots of DAGs and one CAS array.

You can only have one RPCClientAccessServer on a database. That can be a single
CAS, or multiple CASes referenced by the name of a CAS Array.

RE: DAG and CAS-Array (or CAS server)

2012-03-07 Thread Joseph L. Casale
As far as I know, the RpcClientAccessServer setting is mailboxdb specific
unbounded by the DAG.
My 2 cents though are such that if your db is redundant and you have a single
point of failure in a CAS server, thats somewhat counter intuitive to HA.

If your DB points to a CAS server in another site, don't you think there very
well could be a penalty in bandwidth or latency?
Given the CAS Array restriction of one per site, your options shorten but I
don't see them as being hindered,

Subject: DAG and CAS-Array (or CAS server)

For a DAG, can there be separate CAS servers per database, or per site?

In the various examples of DAG that I have seen, I find only one CAS (server or
server-array) per DAG at a time. If this is in fact the limitation of a DAG,
why does one article of Technet would mention that you can split ACTIVE
databases between the two sites? Would not it be better to keep all active
databases in the site where CAS is? Thanks.
