RE: Moving OWA to another server
This is called a front-end back-end configuration. There are several good articles on MS' website that describe how to configure the system this way. As a side note, with E2k, you have to have the Enterprise edition of Exchange to split off the OWA on a different server. I think more people should Bixxx about that. jds -Original Message- From: Robbins, Geoff. Geoff On the new OWA to-be server, stick in your exchange 5.5 cd, run setup and select Outlook Web Access. Deselect everything else. It will ask you to specify your exchange server, and that's about it. No loss per sé, but you miss out on one of the biggest gains from 5.5 to 2000 of course. :o| OWA in 2000 is much better. Ya, OWA for 5.5 can still access mailboxes on Exchange2000. It's really a MAPI connection. -Original Message- From: Carl Houseman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, May 15, 2002 3:12 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Moving OWA to another server OK, that's new info. The differences between OWA 5.5 and E2k. Tell us a bit more. Do you have OWA on the same or different machine to the Exchange server. Will the replacemnet server be in the same site? -Original Message- From: Robbins, Geoff. RE: Moving OWA to another server
Title: RE: Moving OWA to another server All you have to do is make sure OWA and IIS are installed on the new server. What DNS name are you giving the new one? If you plan to use the same DNS name, simply adjust where it points in DNS. Ie http://mail.domain.com/exchange or whatever it is. -Original Message- From: Snook, Kevin S (ITD) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 9:35 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Moving OWA to another server Tell us a bit more. RE: Moving OWA to another server
The problem I had was that we have one new server and two old servers. New-server1 has all the current users on, whilst old-server1 has the bridgehead and old-server2 is the OWA server. Our plan is to commission a new server (new-server2), divide the users onto the two new servers, make new-server1 the bridgehead and new-server2 the OWA server. The servers are and will be in the same site but with new names. Hope this helps.
