Probably the only disclaimer that ever made sense.
I kind of like it.

We use ArcserveIt 6.6x to backup our Exchange Server. If our mail
server crashes, please be aware that we will most likely not be able to
restore the database. Please keep backup copies of any correspondence
you email us. Thank you.

We currently access all OWA traffic through one Exchange server.
However, we want to move that to another Exchange server so that the old
server can be decommissioned.

I have had a look in TechNet but without success. Can anyone advise how
to do this? We are a Ex5.5 SP4 house running IIS4.

RE: Moving OWA to another server

2002-05-15 Thread Jonathan Schober

This is called a front-end back-end configuration. There are several good articles on
MS' website that describe how to configure the system this way.

As a side note, with E2k, you have to have the Enterprise edition of Exchange to
split off the OWA on a different server. I think more people should Bixxx about that.

On the new OWA to-be server, stick in your exchange 5.5 cd, run setup and
select Outlook Web Access. Deselect everything else. It will ask you to
specify your exchange server, and that's about it.

This is called a front-end back-end configuration. There are several
good articles on MS' website that describe how to configure the system
this way.

As a side note, with E2k, you have to have the Enterprise edition of
Exchange to split off the OWA on a different server. I think more
people should Bixxx about that.

Although I am fairly competent with Exchange, I need a bit of assistance
with OWA.

We currently access all OWA traffic through one Exchange server.
However, we want to move that to another Exchange server so that the old
server can be decommissioned.

I have had a look in TechNet but without success. Can anyone advise how
to do this? We are a Ex5.5 SP4 house running IIS4.

OK, that's new info. Is there any loss of functionality for using 5.5's OWA to get to
E2K as compared to the OWA that comes with E2K?

I actually agree with you; I'd also like to be able to separate OWA from
the mailbox server without the additional cost.

No loss per sé, but you miss out on one of the biggest gains from 5.5 to
2000 of course. :o| OWA in 2000 is much better.

Ya, OWA for 5.5 can still access mailboxes on Exchange2000. It's really
a MAPI connection.

2002-05-13 Thread Matthew Carpenter
Title: RE: Moving OWA to another server

All you have to do is make sure OWA and IIS are installed on the new server. What DNS name are you giving the new one? If you plan to use the same DNS name, simply adjust where it points in DNS. Ie http://mail.domain.com/exchange or whatever it is.

RE: Moving OWA to another server

2002-05-13 Thread Robbins, Geoff.

The problem I had was that we have one new server and two old servers.

New-server1 has all the current users on, whilst old-server1 has the
bridgehead and old-server2 is the OWA server.

Our plan is to commission a new server (new-server2), divide the users onto
the two new servers, make new-server1 the bridgehead and new-server2 the OWA
server.

The servers are and will be in the same site but with new names.

Hope this helps.

Geoff
