What happens when you stop / restart the SMTP Service? Almost sounds like a DNS resolution issue. So has the problem now gone? I am wondering if there is still a small issue here? Sometimes stopping/restarting SMTP helps, but was there any configuration changes made recently that you can pin-point back to when this problem started?
