Re[2]: Expat List British citizens in Russia
I would suggest that whether or no dear Helene is legit, as a result of her Wardenship she will acquire a very handsome database of UK nationals in Moscow for use by her company and/or others. -Original Message- From: Nick REES nickree...@yahoo.com To: topdec...@googlemail.com, The Moscow Expat List expat@lists.ru Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2009 23:26:10 + (GMT) Subject: Re: Expat List British citizens in Russia If they haven't got our email addresses, how can they email us and ask us? It does seem like an odd request. If you go to the trouble of looking at the email address that Nick provided for Helene, TMI Consultancy would appear to be a Market Research / PR company and this is from their website - *TMI is a British consultancy specialising in market research, marketing and PR services. We provide a full spectrum of these services in Russia and the CIS countries. We have experience in various sectors with particular expertise in the international travel industry.* If it is a phising scam it it is a bit more inventive than getting a random email from Chief Ubongo-Bongo from some tinpot Central African state with a promise of a 10% share of one hundered zillion dollars if the good old Chief can park some of the funds left by one of his recently deceased relatives in your bank account. Regards Len 2009/12/17 Бургхардт Дэвид Адам dburgha...@rian.ru Extremely strange. As a U.S. citizen it was my initiative to be entered into the embassy's warden list. Re: Expat List British citizens in Russia
Hi Guys, Even if it is not a scam, and Helen means well, I doubt the embassy would ask others to collect personal information in their name to register them for emergency cases. If you ask me, Helen wants contacts for marketing purposes. Why don't you call the embassy or go to their web site and register there? http://ukinrussia.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-russia/registering-with-us/ Registration also puts you on embassy announcement/invitation lists, which can be quite useful. RE: Expat List British citizens in Russia
I strongly encourage anyone who does wish to register to use this http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/staying-safe/Locate/ That way you know your information is going to the right place. While this page does mention that your information 'may be given to carefully selected contacts in the country concerned', it raises the interesting question of why the request was not made to register here... This system is also mentioned on the local Embassy website here: http://ukinrussia.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-russia/registering-with-us/ Regards Aussie Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2009 23:26:10 + From: nickree...@yahoo.com Subject: Re: Expat List British citizens in Russia To: topdec...@googlemail.com; expat@lists.ru CC: If they haven't got our email addresses, how can they email us and ask us? Re: Expat List British citizens in Russia
It has led a whole bunch of us to investigate the TMI Consultancy site - perhaps that was the cunning plan all along, they wanted to improve their internet traffic! At the very least it has flagged up the British Embassy's LOCATE programme to those not previously registered, and of course for Nick it means several days of mickey taking from everyone else! 2009/12/18 Len Ganley len.gan...@gmail.com It does seem like an odd request.
