[expert] Feels good to be back again

2000-05-15 Thread Denis HAVLIK

Hi, experts, gurus & co. !

I suppose I own you all some explanations...
The situation is such: Mandrakesoft mail-server machine is supposed to
move to new machine. And I have been waiting and waiting and
waiting... for this to happen, before moving expert list to sympa,
because our present system looks as if it is going to die any time now,
and I did not want to be the cause. :-(

Well, today I decided that I just have to move the list to sympa, because
majordomo finally refused any further cooperation, and your e-mails to
expert list were ending in e-mails nirvana for the last 3 days.
So, starting with today, all the administrative requests related to this
list should be send to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

sending "HELP" command to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" will show you a list
of commands which can be used with short description.

I sincerely hope that sympa will prove to be more robust than majordomo -
so far there has been far less problems with lists managed by sympa, and I
have far better possibilities to filter spam and such.

cheers
Denis

As for subscribing/unsubscribing, the request should be sent to
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]". Magic words are:

Also, you will notice that you are not allowed to use this word when you
try replying to this message. This was done to avoid long stupid treads on

I was under the impression that 'love bug' was written using VB sript

AFAIK, there is no application in Linux/Unix/etc that runs
VB Scripts. I could be wrong, but going by what I know,
there is no such thing as a VB Script for *nix.

Hi hans..

Look at your /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file.

Make sure you have YOUR ip address specified there and make sure that you
have
port 80 set as the port to use.

Then, restart the server and try telnetting to the ip/port and see if there
is any response..

[expert] which rpm files are needed to get apache-mysql-php3 working

2000-05-15 Thread Timothy Litwiller

I did a Madrake 7.02 install without web services and now need to add
them. I really don't want to reinstall on this machine as there are many
undocumented changes that the client has done that they do not want to
loose.

A list of the mandrake 7+ rpms that would add these services should be
enough to get me running on this.

Thanks.

[expert] Virtual Domain DNS MX question

2000-05-15 Thread James

I've created a few virtual domains on my system (Linux Mandrake 7.02), and
they are all working well. Now I wish to redirect mail sent to any one of
the virtual domains to the correct place.

I have only one question at this point that I'd like to clear up. I can't
find any reference in the O'Reilly "DNS and BIND" book that explains
exactly how to do this. Anyway, my only question at this point is.. in
the MX part of the DNS record of a virtual domain, I don't quite
understand "what" the mail server is.. is it my server? Or do I have some
special name for the mail server?? So, if it's just my server, and I have
a virtual domain user that I want to have mail sent to, which one of these
MX setups is correct?

virtualdomain.com. IN MX 10 server.com.
or
virtualdomain.com. IN MX 10 virtualdomain.com.

Thanks for any help.

James

Re: [expert] Virtual Domain DNS MX question

2000-05-15 Thread Gregg Green

The MX record is the mail server that handles the mail for the domain (@domain.com).
I usually setup a mailhost.domain.com reference to the IP address of the mail
server the has the user names for the domain. Then I put mailhost.domain.com
into the MX record. The MX record should only reference the mail server's IP
address.

Attached is a sample DNS file.

Make sure all the services are running.
Make sure all the IP addresses are initialized.
Can you ping the IP's? I have had a situation where not all IP's were active
when the server boots. When you install PHP, you should learn to build it instead
of use RPM's. MySQL is okay using the RPM's. Check your host interface settings.
Use webmin to help you configure your server. Download it from http://www.webmin.com

Re: [expert] which rpm files are needed to get apache-mysql-php3 working

2000-05-15 Thread Gregg Green

Install PHP from the tarball. Learn to build it --with-mysql instead of using
the RPM's. The RPM's are not setup with MySQL.
Download PHP4 from www.php.net. MySQL and Apache RPM's are okay, but install
then before PHP.

Unless you have a unique IP addy for virtualdomain.com it would be
your mail server. Use your mail program to route mail for virtualdomain. If I
remember right in sendmail you add virtualdomain as an alias then you have
multiple options as to what to do with that mail e.g. I host a friends domain
and all mail to his domain automatically forwards to his @home email addy.
Pretty cool stuff.
