[expert] Openoffice-MySQL

2002-06-16 Thread Damian G

hi..!

i've been looking for the moment to start learing a bit of SQL and since
i got that PDF explaining how to use OpenOffice as a gui for it, i
decided that moment would be now..

however i'm having trouble making things work the way that howto says it
should.

i¡ve edited /etc/odbc.ini and /etc/odbcinst.ini so they both look just
like the example this document, however the ODBC driver ( i guess that's
where the problem is ) can't find the server ( or database? or data
source? )

i've searched on google using the error i'm getting as the
search query but i didn't find any useful data ( a lot of it
was for MS-SQL or was simply referred to other problems, as
it looks like it a very common 'newb' misconfiguration )

this is what i'm getting.

[root@localhost user]# isql MySQL-test -v
[unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect

my .ini files are: ( the howto refers to these two files only so
it looks like it should work by tweaking only these? )
i've checked that all .so files exist and are in place, too.

/etc/odbc.ini

[SQL-test]
Description = SQL database test
Driver  = MySQL
Server  = localhost
Database= test
Port= 3306
Socket  =
Option  =
Stmt=

/etc/odbcinst.ini

[MySQL]
Description = ODBC Driver for MySQL
Driver  = /usr/lib/libmyodbc.so
Setup   = /usr/lib/libodbcmyS.so
FileUsage   = 1
CPTimeout   =
CPReuse =

thanks for any ideas that you may have.

Damian

[expert] problem with proftpd

2002-06-16 Thread Bruno Damour

Hello
I have set up a new server for my small business.
I just have 1 problem w/ proftpd (default config from install) When browsing
the directory with MSIE 6 I see the files with strange names which are in fact
size, creation date and name of the actual file ? This is broken somewhere (and
of course trying to do someting with this name doesn't lead anywhere)... Any
idea of how to correct it ? TIA

Bruno

I am using the pdf protocol for link Openoffice-ODBC-MySQL and is runing
fine under Mandrake 8.2!

Did you remember to instal the libmysqlclient?
And did you do:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib?

Just a comment, I have the OpenOffice installed from the original OOo
files, I have noticed that the mandrake rpm install some files in
different location of the original ones; perhaps this could be another
problem and the export command could be different.

I hope this will help you

  Thanks for answering. I just found that I missed that one RPM during
  installation. Should have found that by myself before writing to the

I originally ran into this problem after a full install of 8.2 as well. I
tried and tried to get gcc 3.0 to work after doing a ln -s /usr/bin/cpp
/usr/bin/cpp0 which went a little ways to making it usable. I also had what
turned out to be a partial gcc-2.96 install (don't know why).

Ultimately, and here comes my puzzled question, I removed gcc-3.0 entireley
and installed everything for gcc-2.96 I could find, but try as I might I
could not find gcc-cpp. FINALLY I did find it after doing a CD-by-CD
search...it was on my Mandrake 8.2 Commercial CD 1 (?!) along with gcc-objc.

So, why are these two RPMs on the Commercial CD instead of install disk 1 or
2 at best, or the Supplemental CD at the very least? I was THIS close to
giving up and downloading from the net thinking that I had a mispackaged box
set lacking two critical rpms until I did the tedious task of manually
searching each and every CD I had. The Commercial CD 1 ? I really don't
understand that one.

[expert] Problems with NIS...

2002-06-16 Thread cyro.real

Hello all,

I have an Mandrake 8.2 Nis server on my network, and two mandrake 8.2
clients, users log on the clients using nis database fine, but there is some
strange things. The java isn't working on the mozilla clients, but work fine
on the server, and i used the same installation on both server and clients.
The ls command is not in colors on the clients, but if i log on the server it
is. I think this is some problem with .bashrc or .profile on the user
directory. My server /home is exported to the clients, so the clients should
have the same options in .bashrc and .profile.
Another doubt is that i want some users to be able to log on only on some
machines, how can i do that?? I had try to put a line like:

-::
+myuser::/bin/bash

on the end off the /etc/passwd on each client to allow only myuser user to
have access to this machine but this doesn't work. On my server none user
have a valid shell, but every user of the server can access the clients
anyway. Is it supposed to be like this?? What am i doing wrong here???

Tanks for the help,

Cyro

 It works here Udo. I'm using Codeweavers wine (because it works) on 8.2.
 I have a native Windows98 partition mounted on /mnt/win/c. So my command
 for what you want is...
 wine /mnt/win/c/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe

hi peter,

thanks for your response, but this is no option for me - I have no legal
windows license left, so I have no native stuff installed.
