Re: [expert] Sendmail vs Postfix!!

2001-03-11 Thread Dave Brown

Nopostfix is over an order of magnitude faster than sendmail
NoPostfix is far more secure and a hell of a lot easier to configure
than sendmail

As an anecdotal note, at the ISP I used to work for we replaced 5 Sparc
Ultra 2 mail servers running sendmail with one very lightly configed
E4500(was a firesale box, and we could not afford to add any hardware to
it, so it was stuck at 2GB of ram and 2 processors) running postfix

Our sendmail guru fought tooth and nail to avoid changing over, until he
started working with postfix and realized just HOW much faster and easier
to configure it really was.

Actually that's not true any more. It's only analog for the last mile, from

It depends, I liked it, but after playing with the M15 build that came out
the other day I think I prefer M15 to N6PR1. They are both very close to
being "good enough" to replace 4.72 as my only browser though. YMMV
though.the builds before N6PR1 and M15 were not very stable on my

Actually, the mozilla project is not being touched by AOL, they are taking
the code to make Netscape 6 from it...but the code for mozilla will still

I have also tested out the Netscape 6 PR1 build.gotta hand it to them,

Yeh, I was pretty sure it was not really "busy" but getting the modem
working was VERY low priority since I was getting out to the 'net via my
home LAN and DSL line. I tried the setserial that Tom suggested and it
worked, so now I have a fully functional Linux laptop. :-)

Nope, it's NOT the internal modem, when I bought the laptop I specifically
told them to leave the modem OUT. The one I am having a problem with is a
Xircom Realport card..it's the Card that is a 10/100 Nic and a modem in

The NIC section of the RealPort card is working fine...it talks at 100Mb

The Modem is a different story, as far as I could can tell it's setup

try to dial out with kppp it says the modem is busy. I have not spent a
