Re: [expert] network
Thanks for the advice , unfortunately I was too busy to try your suggestions yet, but I'm also not confident they'll help since after typing 'telnet 90.0.0.3' I immediatley get the response 'connected to 90.0.0.3' but it then takes a long time for the login prompt after connecting . ( lynx & netscape also get an immediate response from the other machine(i.e the apache intro page)) --- Axalon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > On Thu, 22 Jul 1999, Linux Happy User wrote: > > > Mike Fistonich wrote: > > > > > Hi > > > Does anyone how I can reduce the long delay when > > > telnetting between two linux (L-M 5.3) boxes , > > > they can ping eachother with no delay but > > > ftp & telnet do nothing for 30s or so > > > before the login prompt . > > > cheers > > > > > > > _ > > > Do You Yahoo!? > > > Get your free @yahoo.com address at > http://mail.yahoo.com > > > > Check the way each machine is recognized by the > other. Re: [expert] Null password
This isn't a partcularly good solution but I installed usercfg from a 5.1 cd onto my 5.3 installation so that i could create users with no password. For some reason usercfg seems to have been replaced by userconf in later releases (I hope i'm remembering those names correctly) --- Linux Happy User <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi everyone out there. > > I recently upgraded a RedHat 5.2 to Mandrake 6.0 and > i've got two > problems : > - the machine is shared by lots of people who don't > care about sharing > the same unprivileged environnment, all they want to > do is enable the > PPP link to Internet and launch Netscape, and also > be able to get files > they downloaded from the 'net via FTP > > So i had an 'everybody' account no password, and > everything worked fine. > Now, this account does not work anyome without a > password, so i had to > 'chpasswd' this user providing a 'CR' password', but > people now have to > hit 'Return' to login, which is not the initial > behaviour. I'm using telnet . Can you tell where are the route statements you're asking about? thanks Mike F --- John Aldrich <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On Thu, 22 Jul 1999, you wrote: > > Hi > > Does anyone how I can reduce the long delay when > > telnetting between two linux (L-M 5.3) boxes , > > they can ping eachother with no delay but > > ftp & telnet do nothing for 30s or so > > before the login prompt . > > cheers > > > Are you trying to FTP/telnet via NAME or via IP > address? I've found that the oss (Open Sound Sytems) sound config program easy to use and it configures my soundcard which was otherwise unsupported . see http://www.opensound.com/oss.html --- Sergio Korlowsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > mike montgomery wrote: > > > I had this problem with my sound card and kde .
