You could try texstars rpms
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/contrib/texstar/apt/Mandrake/RPMS.texstar

if you cant wait for the MDK rpms.

Hi All,

anyone know when and where we might find Mandrake 9.0 RPMs for kde3.1?

On another tack, I note that these RPMs are already available for
cooker. Presumably many of you are using cooker, how reliable do you
find it?

Thanks,

[expert] Xawtv and UK tv channels

Hi

I've have installed a hauppauge wintv card on my mandrake 9.0 system.

On install there were no problems encountered, but the problem is, when
i a channel scan nothing comes back!. The card works fine in windoze and
i can see all the UK channels in the London region. Is there any reason
why i cant pick up channels from the London region (or any channel for
that matter !) in mandrake?

Try killing the .MCOP* files. I.e., bring the machine back to the
[xkg]dm login screen. From a console session, rm -rf .MCOP*. Login to
KDE.

Hi,

Are you connected to your LAN OR local network OR internet while
starting KDE or are you just starting the machine without any network
interfaces attached to it?

In any case, try appending your machine name at the end of the first
line in /etc/hosts. For example a standard /etc/hosts provided
with mandrake is as follows .

sandeepk@sandeepk ~ $ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1localhost.localdomainlocalhost
sandeepk@sandeepk ~ $

And, my machine name is "sandeepk" this is without the domainname.
Since, the domainname is dynamically obtained via DHCP (especially for
mobile laptops.I have one domainname in the office, one at home,
one at school, ...)

So, I just append my machine name "sandeepk" without the domainname at
the end of . "127.0.0.1localhost..sandeepk"
So, now it looks like this

sandeepk@sandeepk ~ $ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1localhost.localdomainlocalhostsandeepk
sandeepk@sandeepk ~ $

Without this, I have seen both KDE and GNOME having problems (slow, no
login at all, etc) while logging in. Also, I have seen this problem
only in Mandrake but, not in Redhat !!!

Altough this may not be exactly what you wanted, but maybe one of the
solutions to your problem. Hope this helps.

Sandeep

Hi,

I got several problem with xine and mplayer with mdk
8.1 with my friend machine.

Xine; compile latest version and install ok; but crash
the whole system in my friend comp (intel pentium 3 S3
savage4 rev 2 according to the XFree86 log file in
/var/log ) not leave any messages at all the system
freezes have to use power button . If I use gcc in a
machine running debian woody (gcc 2.95.4) to make the
kernel+modules for his comp. xine crashed but the
system is still running as normal that makes me think
gcc-2.96 in mdk still buggy ? .

In my comp. using intel celeron 400Mh intel8x0 card
the latest xine compiled and seems run as normal

What should I do? mplayer can not play as well after
./configure --disable-gcc-checking compile is ok, can
not render anything

What is the recommended program for playing vcd and
dvd in mandrake ? because I saw no xine packages for
mandrake, mplayer as well so

What do you mean with console server? Should this mean terminal emulation
(like
Windoze's HyperTerm, minicom, )

> 1) Can it be done?
Definitly yes. I'm using it to access my server (no graphics card) if
network
login is impossible.
> 2) If so what are required packages needed?
a getty which knows about serial lines (i use agetty)
> 3) What sort of cable do i need?
a serial crossed out cable (null-modem-cable)
> If anybody can help i would be grateful.
>
you must install a getty which knows about serial consoles. I use agetty.
in your /etc/inittab you must add a line to tell you system that i should
print
a loginprompt there
I.e.:
7:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0 vt220
9600 is the baudrate. You must enter the same here and in your terminal
emulation. The other parameters are normally 8N1 (8bits, no parity, 1
stopbit)
ttyS0 is the serial port the terminal or terminal emulator is connected to
vt220 is the protocol of the terminal emulator (escape sequence to position
the
cursor on various places at your screen).

kill -SIGHUP 1
will make init reread the inittab
