True,
but I am getting a but load of collisions on my hub between my win2k and

for some reason it appears not to be autodetecting.

the network/broadcast addys are the same and they are in the same class
(10.100.100.???)

[expert] setting eth1 to 10mb

2000-04-16 Thread Ronald J. Yacketta

Hello all!!
have a little problem here.
both my eth0 (cable modem connection) and my eth1 use a tulip driver.
I need to set my eth1 to 10mb (due to my crappy 4 port hub)
how can I set just one interface to 10mb and not affect the other (useing
the same moduel)??

I fear that if i set the options=blah in conf.moduels that it will affectt
both eth1/eth0 which is not a good thing.

Regards,
Ron

Re: [expert] Tulip NIC problem

2000-04-15 Thread Ronald J. Yacketta

heres some food for thought ;)
I have 2 linksys cards
two in my LM box and one in my win2k box
I have a cable modem that uses DHCP and have yet to see any problem with my
etho (the tulip/lnksys card)
matter of fact I have yet to see ANY problem with ANY of my cards/network
stuff

I have in the past used 3c509b's with my linksys as well as a smc card.
neither combo resulted in ANY problems.

just some food for though :)

Re: [expert] Problems mounting floppy disks

2000-03-07 Thread Ronald J. Yacketta

yes, if he changed it to fs=ext2 he would beable to mount ext2 floppys
but NOY vfat ones, which would place him back in the same boat he is in.

with fs=vfat he cannot mount ext2
with fs=ext2 he cannot mount vfat
BUT
if he axes the cludge of supermount and reverts back to the working
fstab entry as he mentioned then he should beable to mount both vfat and
ext2 with the -t option to mount.

I had the same problem here.
I was able to reproduce the above results with consistancy.

[expert] linux printers

2000-03-04 Thread Ronald J. Yacketta

Hello all!!!

I have heard rumors of a web page that listed all the know linux
compatable printers.

I am currently looking to purchase a printer that will sit on my
winblows box (for my son) and have the ability to print to it from linux
(using samba).
I have read that inorder to print to a winblows printer there needs to
be a native print driver on the linux box. which leads me to my opening
question..

also when my server boots I see this nice little line saying something
to the effect of Adaptec 1520B/something bios revision v#.##??
sounds like a bios to me ;)

Re: [expert] LM 7.0 SCSI Install

When I built my box b4 using SCSI I had
/ 400M sda1
/swap 128M sda2
/use 2gb sda3
/var 2gb sda4
/packages 2gb sda5
/home 3gb sdb1
/usr/local 3gb sdb2

have free space on both sda and sdb with a spare disk (want to use for
mirroring) sdc.
and still got the "LI" error.

what is wrong with the above? it is well withing the limits you have
set.

do I need to make swap sda1? (to me that makes no diff) it appears to be
something with lilo correct? the same layout on ide drives works like a
charm.

msec is just a bunch of scripts in /etc/security :)
when yo uchange your security level the scripts are ran and certain
variables/settings are assigned based on the level you choose

one thing I noticed with msec is that you cant go back (atleast I have not
figure out how)
if I msec to level 5 and then re-msec back to lets say lvl 2 I am still
hosed because msec did not revert perms and relink /etc/rc.d/init.d/
startup files etc..

overall msec is a neat idea buts appears to need some help :)

sftp that is part of ssh correct?
is sshd running on the server your connecting to?

we use sftp/scp/ssh (all part of ssh) at work and had a similar problem
here (scp would not work) after digging it was due to sshd not running on
the server I was attempting to connect to.

sndconfig told me nothing, it found my card I clicked okay and then the
linux version ofthe BSOD.. nothing but blue on blue (box is not hung
tho, just the sndconfig I can goto another virtual console etc..)

BTW:
I did get the card to work by bypassing sndconfig/pnpdump and just hand
editing conf.modules and saying piss on isapnp!

hrm.. gues that would asnwer the i/o conflict bit as well, after hand
entering my card in conf.modules with the i/o ports and irq etc the
modprobe worked like a champ.

if you want the new user to own the dir then you would do a
chown -R newuser dir
if you just want the newuser to have access you could go about it this
way
1) change the group of the dir to user (chgrp -R thegroup dir)
2) change the perms on the dir to give the group access
if you want the group to have full access you could do a
chmod -R 770 dir
that would allow root and the group to read/write and execute files in
that dir

are thier other ways? well of course thier, but to me this would be the
easiest route
