RE: [expert] Bt 878, bcast2000 et al
I too attempted it. The best I was able to do is get a little sound (but no picture) with the programs I tried before the computer locked up hard. Just having the drivers loaded with the card in the computer tended to lock it up after a while. > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Don > Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2001 5:16 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [expert] Bt 878, bcast2000 et al > > > I too was able to run my TV card (Hauppauge WinTV) in mandrake 7.1, but > When I try with Mandrake 7.2 it just freezes the whole Linux > machine to the > point that I have to turn the power off. > >

I have an AverMedia TVCapture98 with BT 878 and it is running fine; I have the next configuration (options related to tv in these files): File /etc/modules: bttv File /etc/modules.conf alias char-major-81 bttv options bttv card=13 options tuner type=5 post-remove bttv modprobe -r msp3400 modprobe -r tuner You must change the card a perhaps tuner type according to your tv-card I am running OK kwintv, xawtv and cabletv; I can't compile xawdecode (I think is a problem of changed directories using XFree 4.01 and the application is maked on to XFree 3.x) I hope this could help you Francisco Alcaraz Murcia (Spain) - Mensaje Original - Remitente: Klar Brian D Contr MSG SICN <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Fecha: Miércoles, Enero 17, 2001 7:02 am Asunto: RE: [expert] Bt 878, bcast2000 et al > exact same problem here.. > > -Original Message- > From: Don [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2001 6:16 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [expert] Bt 878, bcast2000 et al > > > I too was able to run my TV card (Hauppauge WinTV) in mandrake > 7.1, but > When I try with Mandrake 7.2 it just freezes the whole Linux > machine to the > point that I have to turn the power off. > > > > On Tuesday 16 January 2001 05:56, you wrote: > > For what it is worth. If you installed a workstation, that is what you got, ie no servers. If you now wish to accept telnet remote logins you must install the telnet-server RPM. But telnet is very dangerous - you should use ssh instead (so install the ssh RPMs then do MandrakeUpdate to get the latest safe ssh). -- Regards, Ron. [AU]

I too was able to run my TV card (Hauppauge WinTV) in mandrake 7.1, but When I try with Mandrake 7.2 it just freezes the whole Linux machine to the point that I have to turn the power off. For what it is worth. I have the Hauppauge Win-TV/radio, and it worked great in Mandrake 7.1, however I am still unable to get it to work in 7.2. Even with all the tips I had. I don't think it is a much a kernel issue as it is in the change from conf.modules to modules.conf, but the bt878 works/worked in linux just fine. Brian

Re: [expert] Bt 878, bcast2000 et al
I am using Hauppauge Wintv Go BT 878 and it works great with both picture and sound. If you are not getting sound .. then try using the audio mixer program and turn up the line input setting .. the Kwintv shipped with mandrake 7.2 doesn't have sound mixer enabled in it .. try Kwintv 0.8.5 .. :) If that doesn't work .. let me know .. and i'll send over all the settings I use Regards Ali On Monday 15 January 2001 7:27 am, you wrote: > When our kernel is compiled right (i2c, video4lin, msp3400, bt878 (in new > 2.4 or bt804) as modules, you have to make folowing changest to > /etc/modules.conf: > > # i2c > alias char-major-89 i2c-dev > options i2c-core i2c_debug=1 > options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1 > > # bttv > alias char-major-81 videodev > alias char-major-81-1 bttv > > # make alsa + msp3400 play nicely > # options snd-card-ens snd_index=0 > # options msp3400 mixer=1 > > pre-install bttv; /sbin/modprobe -k msp3400; /sbin/modprobe -k tvmixer; > /sbin/modprobe -k tuner type=5 > > options bttv card=10 radio=1 pll=1 > options tuner debug=1 type=5 > > post-install bttv /sbin/modprobe -k msp3400; /sbin/modprobe -k tvmixer > > this works well for me > maybe you have to change your tuner type > > Let me now if it works for you to > > Luk > > Op maandag 15 januari 2001 05:11, schreef u: > > Thats why my Bt-878 is in a windows box right now, because I never could > > get it to work with linux. When our kernel is compiled right (i2c, video4lin, msp3400, bt878 (in new 2.4 or bt804) as modules, you have to make folowing changest to /etc/modules.conf: # i2c alias char-major-89 i2c-dev options i2c-core i2c_debug=1 options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1 # bttv alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-1 bttv # make alsa + msp3400 play nicely # options snd-card-ens snd_index=0 # options msp3400 mixer=1 pre-install bttv; /sbin/modprobe -k msp3400; /sbin/modprobe -k tvmixer; /sbin/modprobe -k tuner type=5 options bttv card=10 radio=1 pll=1 options tuner debug=1 type=5 post-install bttv /sbin/modprobe -k msp3400; /sbin/modprobe -k tvmixer this works well for me maybe you have to change your tuner type Let me now if it works for you to Luk Op maandag 15 januari 2001 05:11, schreef u: > Thats why my Bt-878 is in a windows box right now, because I never could > get it to work with linux. Thats why my Bt-878 is in a windows box right now, because I never could get it to work with linux. Bt-848 support is in linux and it works. But I have never had anyone else with a Bt-878 confirm that theirs is working either.
