Re: [expert] Mozilla configuration crash -- Why?

2001-03-17 Thread Benjamin Sher

Dear William and friends:

Thanks so very much for your kind help. I finally found a version that
works: Last night I downloaded the latest nightly build. Turned out to
be the first 0.8.1 version available. That's what it said under About
Mozilla. Maybe they finally fixed the Preferences problem. Still,
sometimes the only way to make the Preferences work is to configure each
part separately (first Fonts, then Navigator, etc.). Still, even that
may not always work. It didn't before. Anyway, all is well that ends
well. I need Mozilla for certain web sites, so I am pleased.

Thanks so much.

Benjamin,

I have mozilla 0.8 working fine on my machine. I used the
mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-0.8-talkback.tar.gz
and the
mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-0.8.tar.gz
versions and they both work though the machine they are on is an AMD450
The i686 rpms of other programs don't install with "wrong architectur"e message.

All the preferences work fine too.
Just the mail usage is too slow for practical use.

I do notice the mozilla site has i386rpms available!

[expert] Mozilla configuration crash -- Why?

2001-03-16 Thread Benjamin Sher

Dear friends:

After installing Mozilla .8 (no problem with installation itself), I go
into Preferences to configure it. Every single time, it crashes and
sends me right back into the terminal with the error message:

"Segmentation fault".
I have tried just about every Mozilla .8 version (rpm, the official
version, the nightly builds, the tarballs, the bz2 and so on.) and every
single one crashes when you try to configure the options in Preferences.

No such problem existed in Mozilla .7.

Any idea what's going on here. Have you had the same experience?

Using AMD K6-2 400 mhrtz, 128 real RAM.

Thanks so much.
