[expert] Sound cards

2003-11-07 Thread Richard Bown
Hi all
trying to get thats friends new pc up and running back to the point the
last one was before it got stolen. :(

The onboard sound card is not yet supported, so he disabled it and put
in a yamaha DS1, which sorta works.. the alsa driver dos'nt support
audio input very well.
I did have some success with the oss driverI think, as I had it
working then it stopped but it was gone midnight and a 30mile drive
home.
Where I'm confused is which input device to point the applications at,
as they use the sound card as an input device then s/w FFT DSP the
incoming sound , should I be pointing at /dev/dsp or /dev/audio or
/dev/adsp ???
Some advice if anyone else is using this card

TIA
Richard

emu10k1 driver for the soudblaster live is a module in the 7.2 kernel. The
install found and configured mine with no problems.

I had to set it up manually on a machine, which is better anyway cos then you
use the alsa drivers. Just add:

> snd-card-emu10k1 (or similar - i cant remeber exact)
> snd-pcm-oss

To your /etc/modules

It will work, i have one mysself and it works nice, and was autodetected, but
like i say, i have installed onj a machine where it wasnt autodetedcted.

Hi all,
Need input on sound cards. I have a Soundblaster Live card
as I want to replace my PCI Ensoniq The Ensoniq is
recognized by Mandrake just fine. I just picked up 7.2
Powerpack, and was wondering if the Live card is recognized
already without any problems.. or does it need separate
drivers.

Thanks for your input and help.
