I have read that the best almost Wysiwyg option for latex under linux
is TexShell; unfortunately it seems to be so hard the configuration, I
haven't been capable of installing it yet.
Has anyone experience with this package?, any help will welcome; thanks
a lot

Thanks Gary - Now that I'm running a faster cpu I'll try going back to it. At
this point I'm going to make an AWFUL confession: I still keep windoze 95 for
the Lotus Wordpro that lives there.

As for Emacs, which I heard mentioned, I thought we weren't supposed to bring
religion into this? ;-)

Hello Declan, I have been using WP8 for about a year in Linux, and many
years in winders before that, and there was no cost associated with it.
Just register for a key for usage after 30 days usage. I also have WP
macro scripting with it. I was also able to convert winders specialized
medical vocabularies over. I have also found that StarOffice 5.2 has one
of the best Word conversions out there. I have not found any Word document
that has not converted cleanly, including headers, footers, etc, and you
can save in RTF format.

Thanks a lot Declan, I will try Maxwell but it seems that they stoped
the development by 1998, isn't it?

I am trying wint nedit also, that has the possibility to put tex as
language preference and then the commands appear higlithed. It could be
a good solution to latex.

Best I've seen was Maxwell - writes m$word6, & .RTF, with the version
I have. I share your inhibitions with klyx - it has it's mind made up what it's
doing, and it's difficult enough to change it. There is Wordperfect 8, but they
seem to want money for it, and it's bloatware anyhow. The 30 day trial turned

Re: [expert] WYSYWYG for latex under linux

2001-03-31 Thread Praedor Tempus

You can save files as latex from lyx (do not use klyx, it is major broken and
no longer in development). Also, the output of lyx is text as well. Try it.
Save a lyx file and then open it in a text editor.

Beyond that, I know of no WYSIWYG editor for latex. Lyx is a "WYSIWYM" app,
meaning that what you mean for it to look like is how it turns out and the
image on the screen is a reasonable face to work with.

[expert] WYSYWYG for latex under linux

2001-03-31 Thread falcaraz

Hello folks;
I am taken a latex course and after every session I am most for use this
wonderfull text-compiler system. The course it under windows, but using
free software.
But my aim is to use latex under linux, nevertheless, the use of a
WYSIWYG text editor is for me more interesting that just an old
character editor. I know lyx and klyx in linux, but they use a
particular file format, different of tex, I don't belive this is a good
idea, the tex format is multiplatform, so klyx or lyx have, for me, a
big handicap.

I have tryed to find any open-source WYSIWYG tex editor, but I haven't
found nothing at the moment. Do any person of the list know some one?

Thanks a lot for your attention
