[expert] Window Managers and Locale Settings

2000-08-06 Thread Dennis Robertson

Hello List,
I have tried twice to post this - third time lucky, I hope.

I have two problems which I think may be related. First, I cannot run any window
manager but
KDE. If I select any other at the login screen the system cycles for a while and
returns to
KDE. I would like to run BlackBox.

Second, if I try to run /usr/sbin/fndSession I get the following error:
perl: warning: Please check your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = "en"
LC_ALL = "en"
LANG = "en"
are supported and installed on your system
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C")
(This message is repeated three times.)
I have reinstalled the locale base and En(glish) rpms. I have checked all locale
files on
the system against another running LM7.0, as I do. I can find no indication on either
system
of any locale settings or where I should be checking them other than in KDE Control
Centre
where under Language, Locale tab, the settings for First, Second and Third read
-English -US(en) and under Applications, Login Manager, Language tab it reads Language
English -US(en).

I have a suspicion that the locale error in /usr/sbin/fndSession is related to the
failure to start any window managers other than KDE but cannot figure out how to solve
either
of them. i hope someone may be able to assist. TIA.

Hello List,

I reinstalled LM7.0 a few weeks ago and have just tried to use blackbox and windowmaker
without success. When I select them at the login screen the system thinks for a while
and
then cycles back to kde. If I try from the console I get a message to the effect of a
failure to start the x server. I have reinstalled blackbox from the cd with no
luck. After the reinstall of LM7.0 I did cull some items from kpackage but am
reasonably
confident I did no harm. I reinstalled my backup .blackboxrc and reinstated
/usr/share/Blackbox/menu which was missing (maybe part of the problem).
Can anyone assist me in recovering this situation, please.
TIA.

Works as advertised.  Many thanks.

You need to back up and restore those files under /etc/X11/xdm because
those files seem not to be installed by XFee86-4.0 but needed by kdm for
different window managers.

[expert] Window Managers

2000-03-31 Thread Dennis Robertson

Hello List,
As a consequence of installing XFree86 4.0 I have lost the link from the
window manager selections on the login screen to the various window
managers. Perhaps I shouldn't have answered yes to all the overwrite
questions during the install of 4.0. No matter what I select I get
KDE. KDE is the only entry in a new file /etc/sysconfig/desktop. (This
file doesn't appear in 3.3.6.)
Can anyone tell me how to repair the login screen, please?
TIA.
