[expert] matrox G450

2001-06-18 Thread Lyric

Hey all, just setting up Mandrake 8.0 on my new system with a Matrox G450
Dual Head video card (only using head 1 right now) and having some
issues..

It seesm when I leave X, I can;t see anything in any consoles. This
occurs whether i log out, or change to a different tty.

I've tried upgrading the driver provided my matrox, but it hasn't
worked...

Was wondering if anyone had any further experience with this and might be
able to shed some light on it for me

Cheers

Current Linux kernel 2.4.3-20mdk uptime: 14 days 0 hours 44 minutes.

Hi all

I never held one of this cards, but I know that at boot time,
the card shows up the memory on it, and the BIOS version, chipset,
etc...
Your question should be answered by this, I hope.

2001-05-22 Thread B.V.L.S.Prasad

Hi ,
one more interesting thing I observed:

I bought Matrox G450 I informed in earlier mail:

In LM8.0 through harddrake,

its showing g400 and 16MB , but interestingly, in the XF86Config-4
it identifies the name of the card as g450 automagically
complicating the situation...

In windows98 Hardware devices:
its showing g450 and 32MB.

There is something going onand its interesting...

Which one is correct...windows/Linux ... ?
Which is more manipulative ..windows/linux...?
Which is more reliable ...windows/linux... ?

can anybody throw some light on this issue

It will be very usefull to all the user community...
and it has to be brought to the notice of
Matrox Manufacturing Community also...and also to the harddrake
developers...

suggestions or help please...

sincerely,
prasad.

I'm popping in on this conversation late, but if you're just worried about
what card you really have, it still is probably a G450 like you expect. I
know I have a G450/32 (installed it myself), but it was still detected as a
G400 w/16 MB. I just corrected it all myself.

I just edited the XF86Config file to have the correct listing. Really
what it calls the card doesn't matter; what matters is what mode lines it
uses for it, etc. My XF86Config file is attached in case you find it
useful. Note that my X is build from a SRPM with a modified spec file to
include Matrox's mga hal drivers, which are necessary to get the most out
of this card. It also includes all the stuff to get DRI working, which you
may or may not find useful; to get the full shebang working as optimally as
possible requires both a kernel configure compile and getting the Matrox
mga driver working.

Has anyone installed 8.0 with the G450 video card. If so did you need the Matrox

from vendor site? Mandrake folks stated once that it was supported in 8.0 beta version
however I was never able to get it to work. I will hopefully be able to install 8.0
tonight
and want to know what to expect.

Yes, I did. The original install was very slow. It's much better with the
vendor drivers. I haven't (yet) tried all them opengl games (like tuxracer).

Well, if you remove the mga_drv.o in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers and
replace it with the beta stuff from Matrox's site, it should work.

Re: [expert] Matrox G450 and Mandrake 8

2001-03-09 Thread Anthony Moulen

There is a known issue with the Matrox G450 and Xfree86 4.0.2 (and 4.0.1 I
believe) where it activates the second header when going into X. This
means that it outputs your display on port 2 instead of port 1. The only
fix for this I have heard so far is to install the binary files from the
Matrox web site. Do you install, but do not test X. Complete everything
else. Boot up into failsafe mode, copy the files over as directed and
then try starting X. You should be all set. I found that setting up my
G450 was very easy after downloading the updated drivers. I even have DRI
support which makes watching DVDs and such much much nicer.

Good luck.

The boot disk wont work "unable to mount root fs". Any help with the Matrox Card?
