Re: [expert] use XF86Config from setup
Apparently Xconfigurator will use a different interface depending on where you start it. From X it runs with the X libs, without X it probably uses the ncurses lib to make a nice display sort of like linuxconf, ntsysv, and some others that I have run in and out of the X environment. One way to find out is to go look at the source code if you are interested. I thought Xconfigurator was an ascii console program, like sndconfig? I don't remember if it lets you, but at install time it uses framebuffer (or vga16 if fbis not dupported), so may be you can try installing the fb version of the kernel... it used to come in a separated rpm... then you use the Xfree-fb server and you should get the same thing as installing. unless it was using the vga-16 one, then you should use that server. you can know which one was using reinitiating the instalation (without installing; just to see what's going on). when it switches to graphics hit CTRL+ALT+F1 and see the what-would-be startx output. good luck. PD: anyway, can you tell me video card and or monitor? privately. -- Inprise/Borland CEO Dale Fuller was even more generous: "Microsoft will continue to be a player in this environment in this world," Fuller said, "*for a few more years.*"

I have had better success with all of them on different machines. Just use what works; try all three. If only parts of the confog file are best from each one, then cut and paste (method 4). Re: [expert] use XF86Config from setup
The default Mandrake 7.0 install does not use the XFree86 XF86Setup program which is in a separate rpm. The xf86config is included in the basic XFree86 rpm and is usually not a very good way to configure your system. Use the Xconfigurator for the best results with Mandrake or Redhat. I've used them both and Xconfigurator has always worked better. Tom John Aldrich wrote: > > On Thu, 16 Mar 2000, you wrote: > > When I installed Mandrake 7.0, the GUI installation wored perfectly. [expert] use XF86Config from setup
When I installed Mandrake 7.0, the GUI installation wored perfectly. But now I cannot get X to work with my video card. Is there a way to use the same exact settings that the GUI setup uses? Thanks for any help in advanced. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
