Can't wait to get my hands on the official release :)..I am sure it will

2001-03-01 Thread Cecil Watson

Anyone trying the beta? I downloaded both ISOs and have burned disk
one, disk two is almost done! I tried booting from disk one, but I'm
getting an error. It cannot find libperl.so, causing the install to
fail. :( Anyone else getting this?

Cecil

My newly burned 8.0 install came right up.

Will it have KDE 2.1, kernel 2.4.2??

I'm just guessing based on previous experiences with 'Drake, but since the
product is already in Beta, I doubt you will see Linux 2.4.2 or KDE 2.1.

Beta 1 has both KDE 2.1 and kernel 2.4.2 as well as a 2.2.18 kernel.

KDE 2.1 is to be in 8.0 , as far as 8.0 beaing beta it just went beta today,
(the previous ISO's available were not beta) of course following the
anouncement of KDE 2.1, as far as Kernel 2.4.2 I don't know for sure I know
they are working on some issues with the kernel.

I just checked the page that describes the beta at

http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/80beta.php3

and the beta is coming with 2.4.2 as the default.

I stand corrected! Kudos to the team for including both of these updates at
what most would agree is the "11th hour"! Of course, I'll probably stick with
7.2 on all but my own workstation. Ever since setting up 7.2 there I've had
to restart X on an almost daily basis and always force a kill of X (C-A-BS)
to get it to close. No other machines here run X.
