Okay Alan, thanks!
I learn more each day, I hope they will stand behind
these disks too. This is my first try with CheapBytes
I hope it's not "too good to be true".
Thanks again!

vernthe cheaper ones are mass produced, usually by an
outside contractor and the more expensive ones are burned
individually by a CD-R usually in-house. The pre-oder is
because of the lead time required by the outside contractor to
produce a significant order (don't know how many probably 1000
or more) and ship it to CheapBytes.

I have a similar question on Cheapbytes one version is
called CDR and the other is just CD, so why the difference??
Also the one you have to preorder and wait for is about
half the price of the other. So having much more time than
money guess which I sent away for??

Re: [expert] 7.1 bug: FTP download mystery -- Solved!

2000-06-15 Thread Benjamin Sher

Dear Alan and friends:

I appreciate knowing that LinuxLand produces their CD's from master CD's
sent to them by MandrakeSoft directly from Paris. That is the way it
should be.

I had problems of all sorts with my installation, and, since now I can
firmly rule out LinuxLand as a possible cause, I must ascribe them to
either a lack of familiarity on my part with 7.1 or some other cause.

At any rate, there is only one way for me to be absolutely sure and that
is to get Mandrake's Official Power Pack and then I can discuss any
problems or anomalies with the people at MandrakeSoft under the terms of
the free 100 day email support. And when discussing it with them, I can
be sure that we are talking about THEIR CD's and no one else's.

The problems I had were NOT with installation but POST-installation.

Again, I do not want to get into particulars because it would not be
fair to anyone. Needless to say, that if, as we now know, LinuxLand
burned their CD's from a MandrakeSoft master CD, then it probably has
nothing to do with them.

I just got my PowerPack 7.0 from LinuxMall. I will get my PowerPack 7.1
from them when it comes out. No more FTP downloads for me (except for
individual packages when needed).

Thanks so much.

Benjamin

2000-06-15 Thread Alan Shoemaker

Benjaminyou must have assumed that the content of your
CD's was downloaded from the web because according to Bryan
Kennedy of LinuxLand/Circadian Software, LinuxLand does not
ftp the iso's from one of the mirrors on the web. They get
master CD's shipped to them from the Paris office of
MandrakeSoft which are then used to individually burn the CD's
that they sell.

What do you mean by anomolies? My CD set is fine.
